The following letter was
received by Sheila and Marty Musicant in
response to the donation of approximately 500 pairs of eyeglasses
by the
Pennsylvania Regions Hadassah Associates to the Hadassah
College of
Optometry this past summer. Many of you donated. Thanks!
On behalf of the optometry department I would like to thank you
very much
for the eyeglasses that we received.
Approximately 120 patients are seen by our students every week at
the
optometry clinics, and most of these patients are given
prescriptions for
eyeglasses. The majority of our patients are elderly or children.
Many of
these patients would be unable to afford to have these
prescriptions made
up, were it not for the help that Hadassah College is able to
provide, in
the form of free frames and subsidized lenses.
For the last few months we have undertaken a special project with
new
Ethiopian immigrants living in Bet Shemesh, examining their eyes
and
providing them with eyeglasses at a very small charge. Many of
these
Ethiopians are adults who have never before had their eyes
examined, and
simply for the lack of glasses have had to live with extremely
poor vision.
Our department has been able to help not only with the
examinations but also
with the supply of glasses.
In addition, the donated eyeglasses come in very useful for the
students
who are learning how to glaze (to cut spectacle lenses and fit
them into
frames), which is an important part of their education.
Thank you again for your help.
