Newtown Hadassah
Volunteer Opportunities

Whoever saves a single soul is as if he saved an entire world.

-- Talmud Sanhedrin

What makes Newtown Hadassah successful is its members...members who volunteer to make phone calls, help with mailings, solicit donations -- you name it!

To find out how you can volunteer, e-mail Marsha Freedman.

Kudos to Hadassah Gift Wrappers!

Our gift wrapping at the Oxford Valley Mall was once again very successful. We earned $1250, thanks to the hard work and dedication of many. Kudos to the following people who are the backbone of our organization, and without whom we would not be this successful. Thank you all for the great job!

Donate Your Time - It's A Mitzvah!

BINGO AT RIDGE CREST

Helping to run a bingo at Ridge Crest Assisted Living Facility is a great opportunity to fulfill your desire to do a mitzvah. We go there one Sunday a month from September to May orr June. All we do is call numbers and help the people to find those numbers on their cards. It does make them happy and they love to see us coming. We would appreciate any help we can get. Please give me a call and help out. - Bea Langman

Do You Know About... The Read * Write * Now! Partners Tutoring Program?

This program is a joint project of Hadassah and the United States Department of Education. It was designed to assist school-age children in grades 1-6, in reading and writing. All activities are planned for one-on-one tutoring by a high school student or an adult. Each volunteer chooses a day of the week, time, and age group to tutor. Each child and tutor meets one day a week and sessions last about one hour. Lessons are provided by the classroom teacher. Tutors are given a Hadassah tutoring guidebook that offers strategies for success.

Read, Write, Now! thanks the following volunteer tutors for making a child's day brighter: Abrams Hebrew Academy, Eleanor Roosevelt School, Village Park School, Irene Kofsky, Sheila Raffle, Sheila Friedman, Renee Kellis, Jean Simmons, Sheryl Silverman, Tessie Tuniman, Florence Marks.

As coordinator of this wonderful Hadassah program, I appreciate each of these devoted women. Please tell them what a mitzvah they are doing when you see them. The program is ongoing throughout the school year, so don't hesitate to consider joining us. You will receive a complete orientation at the school that includes meeting the principal, the reading specialist and the classroom teacher. Volunteering is a rewarding experience that will change you forever!
