Bridges

The Howe truss and Kerr's Run Viaduct have been posted on MLS, but for continuity sake, here they are again, along with some other spans. Mill Pond trestle has its own page.

The Howe Truss is about 44 inches long and was made from cedar and brass rod from Garden Texture plans.
Kerr's Run viaduct is the highest point on the railroad. The head of the creek is actually hidden by the viaduct and the rock cliff behind it. Retaining wall is scraps of wood, soaked in a mix of roofing tar and spirits -- mineral, not the other kind!

A couple of other small bridges will be required, and will be engineered as we go!

Bridge #1

Left is the inside of a form for pouring a couple of small abutments. It's luan plywood and OSB with a coat of paint to help to seal it. Green rods are aluminum tubing from plant support. They're driven about 7" into the ground. At right, it's been poured. Form is held together with braces and mechanic's wire.

Pour made and mold released.. Abutment is about 7 x 6 x 1.5. Took about 3/4 of a large coffee can of sand mix. Backfill awaits configuration of creek.
504 ventures across Bridge #1. The motorman is smiling because the car is still on the track! Guard rails and wing walls still need to be installed.
Bridge #2 is a short curved trestle with a single center bent and wing walls on the ends. Pictures to come.
Culvert #2 takes the yard lead across the run. Ditto 5/13/05
Culvert #1 handles drainage from the Peacock Mine.       Pictures eventually!!
