Making Effective Communication a Worldwide Reality

Come to visit ORBITERS TOASTMASTERS Club and find out more about us as a educational, friendly, fun, and caring club where you may want to join.

o VISION: To be the most proactive, interactive and successful club that contributes and promotes Toastmasters International educational and leadership programs and philosophy for the betterment of the society in general and individuals in particular.

o MISSION: Provide each individual the opportunity and the environment to maximize their potential to master the art of excellent communications, (speaking and listening) analytical thinking, effective evaluation, leadership and the establishment of lasting interpersonal relationships.

o Who Should Attend? Speaking in public is the single most common fear for Americans. We all have to make presentations to our peers, superiors, or to the public. How do we overcome this fear? How do we make effective presentations? How do we use visual aids to enhance our presentation? How do we use our gestures and body language to emphasize the point we are making? How do we use vocal variety to keep our audience attentive? How do we use pauses to create dramatic effect? If you have asked any or all of these questions in effective communications, then Toastmasters is for you.

o Who is Toastmasters International? It is an International non-profit voluntary organization that is devoted to making effective oral communications a worldwide reality. There are several clubs in the bay area, also in Sunnyvale. Orbiters Toastmasters is one of the oldest, most prestigious and unique clubs in Sunnyvale. It was started in 1959 as a part of (now) Lockheed Martin's internal need to develop effective communications skills. Our members have been the recipients of speech contest awards and have continued to provide Areas and District leaders and new officer trainings. We are proud that this club has a diverse racial and ethnic background and has a wide global representation!

o How to Become a Member of Orbiters? 1. You can call VP Membership or email Orbiters . 2. Come to visit us and attend the meeting as our guest, get to know us, see what we do. You may visit the club as many times as you want as a guest. Join when your are ready.

o What a member does: As a member you choose the pace at which you want to develop your communications skills. Members give prepared speeches on topics of their choice. The time for a speech is normally 5 to 7 minutes. Speeches are evaluated on style of presentation, and strengths will be stressed. The evaluator will also give feedback on areas for improvement.

o What are the Educational Programs? The educational programs are in self-paced modules which were designed to help you develop and improve your public communications techniques that enhance your speech and leadership qualities. Some of these Achievement Certificates / Recognitions are:
