Thomas Peterson - SPH Class of 1957

Ex-newsman at WPGH-TV, T. P. Peterson

Thomas P. Peterson, former news director and on-camera newsman at WPGH-TV Channel 53, died Sunday at his home in Ross. Mr. Peterson, 54, died of cardiac arrest related to diabetes, his wife, Roslyn A. Peterson, said. He worked at WPGH from April 1977 until January 1989, when he took a medical disability leave, said Terry Caywood, promotion directer at the station. Mr. Peterson also was director of public affairs at WPGH and apeared on two weekend public-afairs shows, "Pittsburgh Tomorrow" and "FYI."

A 1962 graduate of the Duquesne University Journalism School, he worked as a TV newsman at stations in Steubenville and Youngstown, both in Ohio; Terre Haute, Ind.; and Roanoke, Va. before joining WPGH. Mr. Peterson was a member of St. Sebastian Church, Ross.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are six children, Kimberly Rudduck of Cranberry and Laura, Thomas, Dianne, Kerri and David, all at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Peterson of McKeesport; a brother, Clyde of McKeesport; and a sister, Mary E. Sacco of McKeesport.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Neely Funeral Home, 2208 Mount Royal Blvd., Shaler. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow in St. Sebastian Church, Siebert Road, Ross. Interment will be in Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon.

ALBERT STASKO - SPH Class of 1957

Albert J. Stasko, 47, of White Oak died yesterday in McKeesport Hospital. An insurance agent for State Farm Insurance, he was a member of St. Angela Merici Church in White Oak.

Born in Glassport, June 6, 1939, he was a son of the late William and Wilma Slafka Stasko. Surviving are his widow, Judith Kroskie Stasko; sons, Albert J. Jr. and Jeffrey at home; daughter, Kimberly Hinerman of Boston; and sisters, Dorothy Kacsan of North Versailles Twp., Velma Petras of Clairton and Mary Ann Worek of Michigan City, Ind.

No visitation is scheduled. Mass of christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:30 a.m. in St. Angela Merici Church by the Rev. Stephen Chervenak. The family has has suggested memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements are being handled by Strifflers' White Oak.

GEORGE ANNE HANKO DeFELICE - SPH Class of 1957

George Anne (George) DeFelice, 63, of Englewood, Fla.., formerly of McKeesport, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003. A former banquet waitress from the Elks Lodge in McKeesport, she was a member of the Elks lodges in Englewood and McKeesport.

Born in McKeesport, Ju1y 20, 1939, she was the wife the late Louis DeFelice. She is survived by daughter, Lu DeFelice of Englewood; son, Val DeFelice of Houston, Texas and two grandchildren.

Memorial service will be conducted tomorrow at 1 p.m. in East Englewood Church of Christ in Florida. Arrangements are in charge, of the National Cremation, Society, Port Charlotte. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Hospice of S.W. Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, Fla., 34236.

REGIS FADDISH - SPH Class of 1957

Regis Edwin Faddish, 66, of Uniontown, born and raised in McKeesport, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side.

His parents, brothers, Fr. John Faddish OFM, Fr. Alvin Faddish OFM, infant sister, Rose Marie Faddish and first wife, Sharon (Kelly) Faddish preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memory is his loving companion of 11 years, Linda dams; two sons, Joseph Faddish and wife Colleen and Rege Faddish and wife Jean; a daughter, Sheryl Faddish; and seven grandchildren.

Regis was the owner and operator of 1st Class Auto Sales for over 20 years. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church and a graduate of St. Peter High School, McKeesport, Class of 1957. He served his country in the United State Marine Corps from 1957 until 1960.

Friends will be received in the Stephen R Haky Funeral Home Inc., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ed., Uniontown, Tuesday until 9:45 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist RC. Church with the Rev. Fr. Michael J. Crookston as celebrant. Interment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery where military honors will be accorded. Michael James "Jim" Smolchek Sr.

SMOLCHEK MICHAEL JAMES "JIM", SR. 69, passed away at his home at St. Joseph's John Knox Village, Tampa, Florida on December 10, 2008.

Jim was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was the beloved son of Mary Hruska Smolchek and the late Paul L. Smolchek of Glassport, PA. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Bernadette McClelland Smolchek; his mother Mary Smolchek; his sister Rosemary Bradley (Tom); his children Margaret Ferrino (Mike) of Tampa; Michael, Jr. of S. Carolina; Karen Brady (Scott) of Virginia; and Paul (Tamara) of Lake Worth, Florida. He leaves eight beautiful grandchildren: Christopher Fahrny, Stephanie Muscati, Alissa Ferrino; Zachary, Johnathan and Kaitlin Brady; Ryan and Olivia Smolchek.

As he takes his rightful place in Heaven, Jim leaves many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and devoted friends. He shall be remembered as a loving, devoted, generous and hardworking husband, father, brother, son and friend who loved to golf and fish and spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He got great enjoyment from following and attending his grandchildren's sports and special interest events. He was a professional hairstylist and salon owner for nearly 50 years and will be missed by the many client friends who benefited from knowing him.

There will be a Catholic Memorial Mass for Jim at St. Joseph's John Knox Village, 4100 E. Fletcher Avenue, Tampa 33613 on Sunday, December 14 at 3 pm. SISTER RICARDA MOLLENAUER - Teacher of SPH Class of 1957

Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 1 p.m. today in Mercy Hall Chapel for Sister M. Ricarda Mollenauer, 83, a member of the Pittsburgh Sisters of Mercy for 66 years, who died Thursday in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. Burial will follow in St. Xavier Cemetery, in Latrobe. Friends were received yesterday in St. Mary's Convent in Oakland, Pittsburgh. The family has suggested a memorial donations to the Frances Ward Fund, Sisters of Mercy, 3333 Fifth Ave., Pittsburgh, 15213.

Daughter of the late Elmer and Laura Kelloran Mollenauer, Sister Ricarda entered the congregation from Immaculate Conception parish in Washington, Pa., in 1926, and pronounced her vows on Jan.2, 1932.

Sister Ricarda received a bachelor of arts degree in chemistry and a certificate of theological studies from Mount Mercy College, now Carlow college, and her master's degree in library science from Duquesne University. She persued further studies in mathematics and science at the University of Notre Dame, the University of Pittsburgh and Villianova University. Later, through grants from the National Science Foundation, she continued studies in advanced mth and science at the University of San Francisco and Franklin and Marshall University.

An educator for 51 years, Sister Ricarda began teaching on the elementary level in many parochial schools in the area and spent most of her career teaching math and science at the secondary level in the Pittsburgh and Greensburg Diocese. She also taught for several years and was the school librarian in the Academia Catilicia in San Juan, Puerto Rico. When she returned, she ministered as escort-companion at the Motherhouse. She returne to Mercy Hall in 1989 as a member of the Apostolate of prayer until her death.

Surviving are brothers, Walter of Zelienople and Elmer of Carnegie; and sister, Kay Armstrong in Florida.

SCHEUERMANN SR. M. JULIA (MARY THECLA)

A Pittsburgh Sister of Mercy for 70 years, died on Tuesday, May 23, 2006.

Born in Steubenville, OH, she was 88 years old. Daughter of Valentine & Regina (Fleckenstein) Scheuermann. Sister Julia entered the Sisters of Mercy from Saint James Parish in Wilkensburg in 1936 and made final vows in 1941. She earned a Bachelors degree in Pharmacy from Duquesne University in 1944 and a M.S. in Chemistry at St. Louis University in 1963.

Sister Julia taught science in numerous area high schools including Our Lady of Mercy Academy, St. Paul's Cathedral, St. Peter's McKeesport, St. Elizabeth, Pleasant Hills, St. Peter's North Side, Holy Trinity in Ligonier. Prior to her retirement in 1997 she served as Assistant Librarian at the Convent of Mercy Library for 12 years.

Sr. Julia was well known and loved for having an inquisitive and disciplined mind. While she insisted that her students were very well prepared in the sciences, she also wanted them to love learning. In her later years Sr. Julia devoted much time to her work in the library at the Motherhouse. Her sense of humor and enjoyment of life will be missed.

Sister Julia was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Frank, Otto, Thomas, Edmund, Joseph, Larry and Paul Scheuermann. She is survived by her sisters Helen (Sister Caroline Scheuermann, RSM) and Regina (Mrs. William Neff) and brother Leo and many nieces & nephews.

Friends will be received Thursday, May 25 from 1-8pm at the Convent of Mercy, 3333 Fifth Ave. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, May 26 at 10:00am in the Chapel at the Convent of Mercy, followed by interment in St. Xavier Cemetery, Latrobe. Sister Mary Clement Fondriest

FONDRIEST SISTER MARY CLEMENT (MARY THERESA)

A Pittsburgh Sister of Mercy for 74 years, died at the Convent of Mercy motherhouse on May 6, 2007. Born in Dennison, OH. She was 100 years old.

Daughter of Edward and Hedwig (Mengon) Fondriest. Sister Mary Clement entered the Sisters of Mercy from Immaculate Conception Parish in Dennison, OH in 1933 and made final vows in 1939. She received a BA degree in Chemistry from Carlow University (formerly Mount Mercy College) and a Masters in Education from Xavier University, Cincinnati, OH. She taught chemistry and religion in area middle and high schools including St. Agnes, St. Colman, St. Regis, St. Paul Cathedral and Canevin High School in the Pittsburgh area, St. Peter's in McKeesport, St. Vincent, Latrobe and Immaculate Conception in Washington, PA. She also taught in New Philadelphia, OH.

After retiring from teaching, Sister Mary Clement assisted at Carlow in the Chemistry Department.

Preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Joseph and Edward and two sisters, Margaret and Frances. She is survived by two sisters, Leonora Smart and Virginia Rinehart, nieces and nephews. An excellent teacher, Sister Mary Clement was a very prayerful woman.

Friends will be received Monday, May 7 from 1-8 pm at the Convent of Mercy, 3333 Fifth Avenue. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, May 8, at 12 noon in the Chapel at the Convent of Mercy, followed by interment in St. Xavier's Cemetery, Latrobe, PA.
