3 Star Post

Commanders Message ( November - December)

I want to start out by thanking all those that volunteered their time to help with the Fall Dance.

Betty Phipps did an outstanding job in organizing the event. The dance showed what this Post can

achieve when we all work together It was the most successful event this Post has had in my ten

years as a member. Thanks to all the members who paid their dues prior to Oct. 9th early bird

cutoff and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves at the Early Bird Dinner on Oct. 17th.

Membership has been doing well. We’ve been able to meet the cut off dates set by Dept. It would

be great to see the Post obtain 100% in membership. A goal that is achievable by working

together, Remember membership is every ones responsibility.

Attendance at our monthly meetings has been down this year. Meetings are where the Post

business and programs are conducted. Any member whose dues are paid up to date can attend.

They are held the second Tuesday of each month, except July and December. At 7pm. Come out

and get involved in your Post by sharing your ideas or complaints.

Some upcoming events are the Fall Bull Roast, on Nov 7th. Children’s Christmas Party on Dec 5th,

Perry Point Christmas Party and the Post Christmas Party on Dec 24th. We will be helping six

families at Christmas this year, ( The Post , Unit and Sal will take on 2 families each.). The

Catholic War Veterans will be hosting Veterans Day this year with a meal at VFW 10028 after the

ceremony.

I’ll close by wishing everyone a happy Thanksgiving and a joyous Holiday Season.

Your Post will be close on Thanksgiving and Christmas day.

Yours in Legion Service

David Johnson

Commander

Adjutant Message

I wish you all the best in Legion Service as this early Fall and Winter issue of the newsletter

reaches your home. The message from the Adjutant’s desk will be short because as I write, I am at

home recovering from surgery (total hip replacement). Thanks to all of you who have had me in

your thoughts and sent me your wishes for a quick recovery. Thanks to Sigrid Vigus for stepping

in to assist 3rd Vice Chuck Poplett in producing the newsletter in my absence. Thanks Ziggy.

Things have gone smoothly in processing of membership and the “Early Bird” season is

over. Mike Wise and I thank all of you who have already paid your dues and urge those who have

not done so to do so immediately. You have read and heard that from the Adjutant and

Commander this Post has

had, at least since I have been involved. Membership is important and to have a large number is

certainly a desirable goal. A membership number is easy to measure, however it is not as

important as our good work! What we accomplish is how we should be measured as an

organization.

As always we in are the lead in our community. We have donated the hall for conduct of a

“candidates forum night” to be held prior to the upcoming Aberdeen election, We are a major

participant and organizer of the Annual Veteran’s Day observance and the driving force in the

renovation of Veteran’s Memorial Park. Once again we have taken in the responsibility to provide a

joyous Holiday for six at need families during the holiday season. Please send a check earmarked for

holiday giving if you wish to donate to this worthy program. We continue to meet the needs of our

Veteran’s at Perry Point and our military service members deployed abroad with care packages. By

any measure our membership remains a huge asset to the community state and nation. Keep up the

good Work!

For God and Country

Randy Conlon,

Adjutant

Hello Unit Members

Again we made it through another meeting as of Sept 09, our standing rules are in Department and

all of our business for the time being was taken care of.

Five ladies of our Unit attended the Perry Point Carnival. We had a huge turnout. Just everyone had a

great time.

We had reservations for 10 of our unit members to go to the fall conference. It was held at the BWI

Marriott. For most part it was informative. At least none of our ladies fell asleep at the table.

Our Department President Project is the “Guide Dogs for Veterans”. A very interesting subject, The cost for one of the

dogs ranges in the $55,000.00 Category. Theses dogs are very special to some of our returning wounded Veterans. I do

hope that we as a unit can support this project to the fullest.

I would like to thank all of the ladies who did attend the conference. Especially our picture taken

historian. It should be interesting to see the pictures at the end of the year.

To all of the old and new members of our unit, it would be nice to see you at one of our

meetings,(every second Monday). But if you cannot be with us, we wish you good health and

happiness.

Till we meet again

Your President

Betty Hale

Chaplain’s Corner

THIS IS WHAT THE LORD SAY’S: “Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man

boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts about this: that he

understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness

on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the LORD.

I would like to close out the year and talk about ETERNAL LIFE.

When I was 17 years old in 1957, my parents took me to hear Billy Graham at Madison Square

Garden in New York City. We sat in the audience along with everyone else. Even thought I was

raised in the church, knew most of the Bible stories, when Billy Graham gave the invitation for

people to come forward and dedicate their lives to Christ, I knew he was talking to me. So I went

forward that day. A counselor talked and prayed with me and I gave my life to Christ. I must admit

since then I have fallen a few times but I have always returned to give my life to Christ. Jesus said” I

am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6). If

you do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ, I urge you TODAY to receive the gift of life GOD

offers you.

I wish all of you a very blessed Thanksgiving and a very Merry Christmas. Please remember the

REASON for the SEASON.

AXEL P WICKS,

CHAPLAIN

FALL DANCE HUGE SUCCESS

The Alton Street Band played classic Rock and Roll music to a “SOLD OUT” crowd at the Legion on October

3rd. For those who were unable to acquire tickets, we are truly sorry. By popular demand we are in the

process of booking Alton Street for a February dance. Details will be forthcoming in the next newsletters.

With the help of so many volunteers selling tickets, decorating the hall, and various other tasks, we were able

to have a successful dance. No one can put on a function alone it take teamwork! We are extremely thankful

to all those who made this happen. Special “THANKS” to our mixologists Nancy Green, Chris Larsen and

Debbie Morris, Night Manager Tony Little, Club Steward Cob Anderson and of course we cannot forget “Dickie

Bird” for an awesome clean up job?

Proceeds will be used for the ongoing Aberdeen Veterans Memorial Park project as well as other Legion

projects.

Last but not least “THANK YOU” to all those attending the dance! Hope to see you at the February dance.

Get your tickets early…..!!!!!
