Painting should be an activity which brings the artist great pleasure.
My goal in teaching is to introduce students to a world of creativity
and self expression. While we certainly work on techniques and
composition, above all I want students to relax and enjoy the classes.
I have been teaching watercolor classes for ten years. I consider myself
first of all a teacher and secondly an artist. I emphasize planning and
breaking the process into small steps to ensure that students are
successful. I also encourage students to practice between classes as
skills are refined with ample practice. My focus is on teaching skills
and techniques to beginners ,laying the foundation for interpretation in
the intermediate class. I teach concepts such as painting strokes, dry
or wet-in-wet painting, or laying flat or graduated washes, or mixing
colors. In the intermediate class students problem solve with
issues of value and design by creating value studies from personal
photographs and rendering these in a painterly fashion
Private
Watercolor classes are taught in my home. I live about 2 miles off Long
Hollow Pike in Hendersonville in the Beech School area. My goal is to
find where the student is artistically and to build from that point.
Generally the sessions are held for one to two hours at $20. per
hour. Sessions can be scheduled for once a week or every two weeks
for a flexible time agreed upon by the instructor and student.
There is no minimum number of required classes. Materials are furnished
for the first class. The student is asked to bring a sample of their
work, if they have worked in watercolor before as well as a
photograph to use as a reference for the first painting. The first
class will discuss design and a value study to prepare for the second
class. A supply list will be furnished for the remainder of the classes.
The first class will also instruct in various methods of working with
watercolor. Call (264-3373) or e-mail
(profess0@comcast.net) to set
up classes and receive directions to my home.
