FastTrack is an excellent program. I used it
for several years, but as an engineer I wanted additional functions. I began to
develop FastRUBE in 1994 to analyze mutual funds in a way that suited my
personality.
FastRUBE is a complete timing and selection
tool that reads the Investors FastTrack Mutual fund and Stocks databases.
FastRUBE allows you to analyze your
investments with multiple independent windows. You can compare daily and weekly
indicators.
The example above demonstrates how
daily indicators (right window) alone may have caused you to sell the fund in
late March. Weekly indicators (left window) would have you hold the fund for
additional gains until the trendline was broken and the weekly indicators
showed the fund was overbought.
FastRUBE has all the indicators in FastTrack
plus Bollinger Bands, Commodity Channel Index, Directional Movement Index,
Parabolics, Trailing Stops, Ranking History and Trendlines that are saved and
automatically extend themselves.
What do you do when the NYSE
indicators disagree with the OTC indicators? Invest and hope? Sit in a money
market?
FastRUBE removes the confusion by showing
you how the Fund Family you follow is performing.
In the chart above FastRUBE used
the Fidelity Select Family to create a signal file in the lower graph by
combining the McClellan Summation with the Family Advance-Decline Line for the
family.
FastRUBE calculates the Advance -
Decline Line, McClellan Oscillator, and McClellan Summation Index for the Fund
Family as well as the NYSE and OTC.
FastRUBE ranks the family and
lists the funds in the order of their performance. You can plot a graph that
shows how each fund ranked in the family versus time or you can see a table of
the entire family that includes the ranking of each fund on seven different
days as shown below:
Selection is easier and more important
than timing, however in a down market the number one ranked fund could be going
down so you still have to analyze the top ranked funds to make sure they are in
an up trend.
Click any where on a row in the
table and the fund will be loaded in the plotting window so you can evaluate
the indicators. You can also print this table or send it to a word processor
for editing.
FastRUBE has a Trading Module that
lets you create a trading system for the family you follow. The FastRUBE
Trading Module is a mechanical system that looks at ranking and several
trending indicators. You can vary the number of positions to hold, the method
of ranking, and select the trending indicator to use for both buying and selling.
You can back test the system to determine the best parameters and in real time
you will see the Next Trade the system will make.
FastRUBE has the capability of
running several trading systems at one time and comparing the portfolio totals of
each system so you can determine which system is currently the best.
