Annual SARC Christmas Dinner PartyThe Salem Amateur Radio Club finds that the Christmas season is just too busy to put a meeting close to Christmas, so we hold a special dinner meeting earlier in the month. This year (2009) we will hold the meeting at the Scottish Rite Temple at 4090 Commercial St. SE, Salem, Oregon on Monday, December 8th. This will be catered to a degree, with the Club furnishing ham, turkey, coffee, punch, and the plates with plastic-ware to eat with. Members of the Club should bring a dessert or salad item to share with the group as pot luck. There will be a large screen projected program at the meeting, presented by Scott, KE7EQA. We love to follow Scott's travels and great pictures. The dinner will setup at 6PM, with the program starting near 7PM that night. There will be a raffle.
Annual SARC PicnicEach year, the Salem Amateur Radio Club holds a meeting in a local park to enjoy the conversation and members of the Club. We replace a meeting in July or August to have our annual pot luck picnic. This also give us a chance to see some of the installations hams have made in their cars. FIND PICTURES ON THE PHOTO GALLERY PAGE.
FIELD DAYThe last full weekend in June is traditionally S.A.R.C.'s annual radio camp out.
Its Field Day, from mid-day Saturday to midday Sunday, with camp tents, picnic tables, a camp cook and antennas from one end of the park to the other. Club members have made contacts
on 160 meters through 70 cm, with ample opportunities for HF operations for novice to tech plus licensees. There is nothing like talking to the world at 3 AM. Its great fun! Talk-in on 145.29.

BUNNY (TRANSMITTER) HUNTS
The Salem Amateur Radio Club has as its bunny (transmitter) hunt coordinator,
Doug, KE7ASM. The group meets on weekend summer afternoons on the steps
of our State Capital. From there one of the group is designated to be the
bunny and given about a 30 minute head start in which to find a hiding
spot within city limits. With our group it may take about another twenty
or thirty minutes to find the bunny and this procedure is then again recycled.
Most of us build our own attenuator and we prefer a two element quad. It's
exciting to be in a hunt and we have talked about using the odometer reading
of shortest distance to capture in lieu of speed to capture. Most often
we work in teams of two and have a "more the merrier" attitude. Join in..........it's
a blast!
COMMUNICATIONS EVENTS
SARC is frequently involved in public service walks or bike events in which we provide
communications for the safety and welfare of riders or walkers during the events. We benefit by better understanding of net procedures and working together. We hope to provide such services as to improve public perception of Ham Radio and increase awareness of our Club and Ham Radio in our area. We already have gained recognition by Federal authorities concerning our elevated activity as hams in our area. In recent lectures, we were told that our area is several percent greater in increased new licenses.
SPECIAL EVENTS STATIONS
We encourage upgrading licenses in several ways. Although operating from friend's stations is
great, operating from other remote locations helps to demonstrate how HF radios operate and get new Hams interested in setting up their own HF stations and to upgrade to allow running such
stations. (The Antique Powerland station was fun for the event and as a learning experience for our members). Others to come.
THE COUNTRY STORESARC runs the Country Store as a service to those who attend the Swapmeets at Rickreall twice a year. The Hamfair runs in February and the SwapToberfest runs in October. Both are fun swapmeets and one of the best tables to be near is the Country Store, as the good deals find their way to the table.
