SARC Weekend Technician Amateur Radio Classes

Welcome to the exciting world of Amateur Radio! We would like to help you get your first ham radio license. Amateur radio is a hobby enjoyed by people of all ages. Amateurs enjoy radio privileges that allow them to communicate down the street and across the globe!

The Salem Amateur Radio Club offers an introductory amateur radio class over two days, two to three times per year. All are welcome to participate.

To earn your Technician license, you will need to pass a 35 question, multiple-choice written test (Element 2). The test covers basic FCC rules, communication methods, basic electronics and RF safety topics. Once you are ready to take the exam, either through self-study or one of the classes, you need to attend a VE test session.

Weekend Beginning Ham Radio Classes (Technician)

During the class sessions, we go over each of the 10 major elements of your Technician class exam, plus take the time to get on the air, make contacts, and get a glimpse of all the aspects of amateur radio available to everyone. It really is a fun time together!

We assume absolutely no previous knowledge and the class is designed for non-technical people. Material learned through both hands-on and through interactive presentations. We even use over 100 "real" test questions during the weekend!

The class fee of about $45 covers the costs to provide the ARRL book, the exam fee, a light breakfast, lunch Saturday, and copies of the presentation and review materials.

The FCC license exam will be given usually on the second Monday after the weekend class.

To register and to get more details about locations, please send an email to Contact Jeff or telephone at 503-587-8892. Please include your full name, email address and phone number in the message. Registration is requested no later than one week before the class starts, to provide time to order class study guides and copy materials. (There is always room for walk-ins though!)
