ΔΣΦ, ΓΔ Chapter, August Work Party Invitation and Summary – August 14,15,16, 2009

 

The next Delta Sig alumni work party weekend is August 14, 15, 16, 2009 (friday-sunday) in Pullman at the Chapter House. Please join us help the active members clean the house and yard in preparation for the start of classes.

Send an email message to TJ or to Jim Wilson to let us know you may join the work party. It is OK to arrive early or late.

1. Results of previous work weekend

Alumni and students worked together to take down the unsafe upper deck off the back of the house, remove one stairway and relocate the railing from the upper deck to the remaining lower deck. Link to work party summary page.

2. August 14-16 Work Weekend Plans

Plans are to meet at the chapter house on Friday, August 14th, to begin work. Please reply to this message to let us know if you can join us. The last work party was fun, successful and an opportunity to both make new friends and renew old friendships.

Check the list, below, and come prepared to tackle one or more of these tasks. The top 4 are our priority at this time. Teams will be formed and trailers rented for the clean-up and runs to the dump. Let us know if there are specific tasks you would like to take charge of, or specialty tools you can bring for the weekend.

• 1. clean out basement storage room, laundry room, all utility rooms, all hall closets, attic, all former phone booths, parking lot and side yard outside kitchen
• 2. make numerous trips to the dump with flotsam & jetsam from item #1 (dump open friday & saturday but not sunday)
• 3. clean bathroom fixtures, floors, walls and partitions on main and 3rd floors. make them sparkle. (basement is due next for renovation)

• 4. clean kitchen appliances, tools, walls and surfaces (make them also sparkle)
• 5. move freezers from dining room to basement or kitchen (need to identify spots for these prior to the work weekend)
• 6. move pop machine from dining room to basement or remove entirely

• 7. move ice machine to kitchen or to basement (along with drain and water supply)
• 8. paint the dining room, hallways and possibly the living room.
• 9. Finish steps around lower deck and from parking lot (finish up from June 26th weekend work)

• 10. check out big house fan in attic/roof and see if we can get it running (needs a 7 or 8 foot stepladder for access to attic)
• 11. prune the big trees next to the parking lot (The two large trees with the shoes in the branches)
• 12. clean all windows, ensure all open or slide as designed

• 13. clean front sidewalk, north sidewalk, all concrete steps and sidewalk along street
• 14. repair brick and chain dividers along front street and sidewalk
• 15. other work as identified

3. Progress Report on Chapter House renovations and improvements

Jim Wilson (email: jimwilsoniii@msn.com) is coordinating the contractor renovation work. He reports from Saturday, July 11th:

• We delivered the windows for the contractor to finish the living room repair where we took out the slider. (note: this is a minor renovation, coincident with deck removal, see summary #1, above)

• The ceiling in the dining room has been removed! We are down to studs and ready for the electrician to install new lighting fixtures. Then we will have the drywall guy come in to do his stuff and replace some of the insulation. Picture taken July 11th.

  

• The tile guy was there working on 4th floor bathroom. He said the wanted to get done because the plumber was coming back this week to install the fixtures. So that is progressing and looks good. (note: this is the first major renovation work of the summer-redo the shower and bathroom the 4th floor. Basement bath and shower renovation is next)

• Most lights actually work, like in the 3rd floor shower and down the hall. There are a couple of fixtures in the hall that may need to be replaced.

• I think the door hardware on the landing on 3rd or 4th floor can be fixed...

• we may need a new door leading outside from the kitchen.

• I think there is a way to fix the railing at the bottom of the driveway - - - without a welder. I am going to talk to a friend in the steel business this week.

Next minor projects include:

• 1. dining room ceiling and patching the drywall holes in the halls. (investigating costs)
• 2. replacing the guard rail at the bottom of the parking lot (see note, above)
• 3. dining room light fixtures: we do not have a figure yet
• 4. electrician for installing dining room light fixtures: no figure yet.
• 5. hardware for the doors in the 3rd floor landing and also the back door by the kitchen (investigating costs)

5. Please join us in Pullman for the weekend of August 14, 15, 16, 2009;

We hope you can join us in Pullman; Most of us bring sleeping bags and stay at the chapter house. You can also pitch your tent in the back or front yard. If you desire to stay at a local motel, please make your own arrangements. Car Pool if possible.
