"Sigma 100-300mm F/4 w/1.4TC hand-held image"

I purchased the Sigma 100-300mm f/4 and the Sigma 1.4x TC recently.

So far I've been refining my hand-held technique since I don't expect to have a tripod or monpod available most of the time.

To "push the envelope" I've been concentrating on shooting at 420mm.
I figure if I can master 420mm, the shorter focal lengths will be a "piece of cake".

Here's one of my recent images that I like:

Nikon D70 100-300mm w/1.4x TC @ 420mm f/5.6 1/400s ISO 200.
Raw file adjusted for exposure, slight CA, and sharpened very slightly.

If you have any sort of a reasonable hit rate with those parameters, you are far better than I am at hand-holding a long tele!!! I wouldn't call the composition innovative or original, but it certainly looks sharp from here.

   Brian,

I agree about the composition, just a test shot that my wife likes.
(Although perhaps cropped to accentuate the eye and beak...)
I wanted to choose something at the maximum focal length to show what's possible.

My hit rate has been pretty good!

Here's a link to another I posted in the Wildlife forum JUNE CHALLENGE : Mom and the kids.
