Our Mission
The Vancouver Children's Opera Company is
committed to enhancing the cultural enrichment of the very young of
Vancouver, Washington and surrounding communities by fostering a love
for that most beguiling art form called opera.
Recognizing opera as a
multi-faceted artistic genre or
medium that is timeless, the Vancouver Children's Opera Company views
opera performances as the culmination of many art forms by combining instrumental
music, dance, voice and drama together. Our objective is to create
that first enlightened experience that will ignite and fuel an ongoing musical
involvement in the lives of the young audiences.
The Vancouver Children's Opera Company was founded in 2000 and in the
subsequent years has performed six major productions for over 9,600
students. Producing operas that rival the quality of major
professional productions performed throughout the country is a costly
undertaking. And, in it's dedication to continue providing the
very best opera to the youth of Vancouver, the VCO is reaching out to
individuals and organizations in the community for their participation
as funding sponsors.
Opera producing is a costly proposition when done on a professional
level. Therefore, the need for funding support from individuals
and community organizations is of the utmost importance to enable these
performances to be gifted to the children. In years past this
non-profit organization has been deeply grateful to have
received grants
or contributions from the
Vancouver Cultural Commission, the Community Foundation for Southwest
Washington, Realvest Community Fund, SW Washington Independent Forward
Thrust and the Clark County Amphitheater Fund
as well as many private donations. Anyone interested is encouraged to join in the effort
to continue this educational undertaking. Please contact us if you are able to contribute financial support or would
like to assist in any other way in this important cultural
outreach program. The
