Dedicated to my "bestest friend", Rick (1952-2002)

Welcome to the Gandalf Gallery. My name is Atsushi. I've created this website to dedicate to my dearest friend, Richard E. Murphy who died on January 8th, 2002 from complications after a liver transplant.

Rick was a very special person to me, and he profoundly influenced the course of my life. He and I lived together for 9 years and had a business together, called Asahi Japan Collectibles, which sold various Japanese cultural items. He was in many ways like my father in America. I miss him terribly.

His hobby was photography, and just before he became ill, he started a business, called Gandalf Gallery to promote his photos. But unfortunately soon after he registered the business, he became too ill to work on it.

After his death, I started organizing his belongings, and I realized that there are many great photos and slides that he took over the years, which without a website, like this, would have laid in boxes forever with no one to see.

That's why I created this website. This is my way of remembering him and thanking him for what he had done for me.

I put many photos that he took and a few photos of him. I plan to add more photos periodically, so please bookmark this page and come back again. If anyone is interested in making prints of any of these photos, please let me know. I may or may not be able to locate the negatives (Rick wasn't the most organized person in the world), but if I can, I will help you obtain them as prints.

Thank you very much.

Atsushi
