You never know where you're going to find inspiration. I have a friend who says it only takes one great line in a bad movie to make it worth watching. This quote below is one of my favorites. I don't know who said it or when it was written, but I love it. I love it especially because I found it inked on a wall in the women's restroom of a tiny French cafe in D.C.

"It's called brain candy. A lot of jobs can give you a quick rush — anything with a lot of risk or furious amount of activity. But before you can label it "your calling" it has to take on personal significance and be woven into the story of your life.
The conclusion that brain candy is not enough is probably the most threatening to our generation's belief system. In this belief system, the world is a battle between the boring and the stimulating. We've rejected the compromise of our parents' generation, which sought safety and security. We channel-surf through jobs and relationships — pushing the button at the first hint of slowing down.
Yet there's a big difference between something that stimulates you for a year ... and something that you can be passionate about for life. What's the difference? The difference is whether your heart is in it." |
