Synopsis After a missing yatch is found inside of an iceberg, a search begins to determine how it came to be frozen inside of its icy grave and what happened to the people onboard.  For the hero of the story, Dirk Pitt, the pursuit turns into international intrigue as powerful and mysterious forces make every effort to stop him from discovering the truth behind the mystery.

Review: While Iceberg was not one of Clive's better books, it was still read-worthy. If you are a fan of the Dirk Pitt series of books then this is an essential.

Drawing on personal experience, Clive Cussler cuts an interesting tale.  Although I had some serious questions about his explanation of how the boat comes to be inside of the iceberg (or that it would be visible to a passing plane through the ice.)

Recommendation: The book was well written enough to pick up at the library, but don't spend the money buying it in hardcover.

Editor's note: At the 2000 Hugo Awards, Cory Doctorow won the John W Campbell Award for best new science fiction writer.

Synopsis:  Right away, Cory treats the reader to a view of a world where death has been cured, no one has to work, and money has been replaced with wuffie (reputation-based currency.)   It's there that we are introduced to the narrator of the book; Jules.

Living with his girlfriend, Jules is one of the people who maintain Disneyland.  No longer a private company, D-Land has been taken over by ad-hoc groups that compete for control and management of the various attractions.  When an old friend shows up and decides he needs to get his wuffie back up to a respectable level before he kills himself, Jules' life is turned upside down.

Review: Previously on this site I have reviewed some of Cory's work and the verdict still stands.  His sci-fi writing is engaging, interesting, and has a fresh perspective.  His characters are well defined and draw the reader into this future world he has crafted.

Another hallmark of Cory's is that he has put quite a bit of his work on the internet for free.  No charges, no memberships, no fees at all.  His last book, in its full entirety is available at www.craphound.com/

Recommendation: If you are looking for fascinating sci-fi and are willing to try something new then Cory's book is worth the read.
