Project Executioner - August 2006

This is a big rocket!

Let's get some glue and start to work.

This fits fine. I wonder if everything will fit fine?

Engine mount time.

How many bars do you have? :)

Spacer tube does it's job well.

What step am I on?

Tools of the trade.

Professor Wingki!!!!!

Dominick was high on catnip!

No don't grab it.

Precise measurements.

More glue...More glue!

Perfect.

Tube marking for the launch lug. OK I hope we test fit it.

Nope. This is as far as we could get it. Of course the glue started drying and that was it. We are going to try to fill this space with a piece of poster board cut to fit. We can put some glue to reinforce and hopefully sand this area smooth. No rocket ever builds perfect I guess.

Sanding fins.

These should fit well.

Nope. Had to make room for the fins. Used an XACTO knife to make the slots slightly bigger.

Down the tube!

All the fins made it. We are using the new "purple" brush-on superglue. I love it. Less worry about too much and always at the right place. I am hooked.

Launch lugs and fin fillets.

Us and the rocket!

Here is the patch job. We cut a piece of poster board to fit the seam as close to the size as we could get.

A bunch of glue to fill the gaps and I think we will be fine. Some sanding should do the trick.

Don't launch it in the house!!!!

We determined that we were sucking too much paint fumes. We got the $6 mask at Wal-mart and it works pretty good. I did forget my gloves the first coat. Oh Well.

Two coats of primer and it looks pretty good.

This is a very tedious masking job.

Wingki did an excellent job.

The measurements were very precise.

I hope the tape holds for the design!!!! I will say that silver paint does go on pretty easily.

The moment of truth!!!

It looks great.

Looks like this turned out like we had hoped.

Perfect!!!

Wingki's masking job was fantastic!! Now we have to mask again for the black!!!

Here we go again!!!!

Wingki is now covering up all of the silver getting ready for the black.

Masked and ready to go!

Black paint going on. No turning back now.

The black paint looks great. We hope the masking job holds up.

Pulling off the tape revealed that some of the silver was coming off with the tape. It really looked weird. You can see where the tape was. It left a residue.

Overall it looks great. We will see if some small sanding of the silver will help before the gloss coats.

On goes the pin striping. We could not find yellow so we used red instead.

The hardest part was removing the paper backer from the stripes.

And of course, Dominick wanted to eat every piece!! :)

The naming of the rocket!

The proud owners. This is a huge rocket. It looks massive in Wingki's hands!!!

After a good coat of gloss coat, the silver turned out nice.

It actually got some texture due to the tape residue and sanding.

Jo Kitty trapeze artist.

Of course this stripe was the easiest to paint and pin stripe.

Precise measuerments allowed this logo to fit perfectly.

View from all angles. The design simply repeats itself around the rocket.

This was the hardest finishing job we have done yet. It was very difficult but the end result is very rewarding. It is funny that we will attach a big engine on this thing and watch it soar into the air....
