Project Superbird - July 2006

Sanding before sand sealer.

More sanding. Here comes the sealer. It's my first time!!

Guey! Our staging area in our laundry room. The container has these smooth rocks. Perfect for drying glue!

I hope this is going to be long enough. The cord they give is just long enough. I had to tie a different knot but I put superglue and white glue on it to reinforce. Let's hope it holds!

Turns out this was a mistake! This piece does not go on this tube.

This is what it should look like.

Coupler into payload bay. Final staging for drying.

Here comes the Primer! First time we have used primer. We are more and more following the instructions! HAHA!

The cheaper Wal-Mart Krylon Spray paint, $.97, is great. Not as thick as the model paint.

Good action shots.

Good coat.

I don't want my coupler to be painted. It would be too tight.

Blue painters tape works well. Here comes the red!!!!

Looks weird now! Not too much.

Almost..

A little sanding then one more coat!! Finished product. Looks really good with sanding and two coats of clear gloss coat!

Here comes the white paint for the base. Blue painter's tape on the fin that will be red. Hope it doesn't pull off the cardboard!

Drying. Waiting for sanding and second coat.

Fin prep. The one fin will be red.

Final prep. Let's hope this keeps the red out! Good pass..

Painting at 11:45PM. We want this rocket to be ready for tomorrow's launch!

Man, I hope the tape held up.

Crap! A little of the red paint go through. I tried to run it off with a bit of brush cleaner. It go most of it but I had to put some more white paint on. Looks pretty good. There is a line where the new paint starts but not noticeable from a distance. Next time I will use two bags!

Sticker reinforcement.

Are these in a knot?

These need to be tight.

Accurate measuring.

Dominick loves to help out with the strings. Naming of the rocket!

Chute attached. Packed and ready to launch!
