Math/Science
Luncheon
The Math/Science Luncheon honors 11th grade girls
who excel in math and science. AAUW asks
Delaware high
schools to nominate the girls and then invites them to a luncheon in their
honor. Speakers for the luncheons are
women accomplished in the fields of math and/or science. Each girl receives a certificate.
AAUW Newark Branch started the annual luncheon in 2000 with
girls from New Castle
County high schools attending. Presenting the award to eleventh grade girls
encourages them to consider math and science careers as they apply to colleges,
and they may list the award on college applications. In 2005, AAUW Georgetown (DE) Branch joined
with Newark Branch by asking high schools in Kent
and Sussex
Counties to participate, and it became
a statewide event.
Honors Day
Award
The Branch awards $250 and a certificate to a University of Delaware senior woman at UD Honors
Day. Criteria for selection include
scholarship and service to the community.
