News, Rumors, Gossip

Come take a walk through time on the sandy shores of Ista Weyr and see what mischief those crazy Istans have been up to. Both in times serious and sad, silly and fun, the action never stops! This record works it's way backward from current events to December of 2001. It is taken mostly from the MOTD (Message of the Day) and postings to the weyr mailer by the individuals involved. If you'd prefer to read the events in chronological order (they do make a little more sense that way), click here and scroll up. Enjoy!

September, 2005 Welcome back. It has been a long while since a vibrant green dragon with oversized wings has been seen in Ista Weyr, yet there for all to see was Yebanth sitting on her ledge. She is obviously glad to be back and is looking in very good shape. S'fina on the other hand is not looking quite so well. She is looking older, slightly thinner and sterner than she did before. S'fina left Ista Weyr when the relationships that made up her life got too much for her, so with permission from the Weyrleaders she took up a post as a watch-rider in a remote hold outside of Ista. She took her young son, Saerin, her firelizards and all her belongings and left Ista without a backwards glance.
Well, while out doing her duty S'fina got into life at the small hold and enjoyed it. Turns passed. For a while Yebanth seemed to be off colour but as she came back into her cycle so the next interval in S'fina's relationships started again. A brown rider from Igen won the flight and, though S'fina was surprised the relationship continued. This was a happy time for S'fina. Her life seemed complete with her new Weyrmate and growing son. The hold was happy to continue having her as their watchrider and she was accepted into their society.
It was not to last though and as yet another long term relationship fell apart S'fina seemed to fall with it. Can this rider just not cope without a man?!?!?! Yebanth, her son, and her friends at the hold all tried to comfort her. Over time she did begin to pick back up the pieces but it was hard going. It was at this time that S'fina decided perhaps she should return to Ista and build up her life again. Now S'fina is back in her Weyr and a member of Phoenix wing. Will her friends begin to talk to her after so long?!?! Can S'fina laugh off the fact she has returned, single, at 43 turns?! What will Saerin do now?
September, 2005 Promotion. Klari is Griffon's newest Wingleader! Was M'thas not getting the job done after B'roughs stepped down? Who knows. Not that it's Klari's first time as a Wingleader. Time shall tell whether Klari can follow in the other bluerider's footsteps or not. Hmm.. Maybe she should hire a /second/ nanny.
September, 2005 Late night delivery. The news that Klari has become a grandmother may be old news, but details still persist in running through the rumor mill. At such a young age herself, how old could her daughter be - fifteen? It's still unknown who the father could be. Word has it that Klari and daughter, Dakari (NPC), aren't much for being pals either. Which makes it even more interesting to hear that the baby boy was dropped off in Klari's weyr late at night, his mother making a momentary scene before leaving. And inside the basket under the baby and the blankets? A note. People are saying Dakari isn't coming back for the baby and left baby Emmett in Klari's care. Looks like, with the other kids already, Klari and R'ish (with a live in nanny, of course!) are going to have their hands full for some time.
September, 2005 Insanity or old age? Somehow over the past ten or so turns, Bali has managed to keep her head down and her mouth shut. Blending into the scenery, she's managed to attract little to no attention. Yet recently she's been fighting more and more with her superiors, chaffing at the yoke of mediocrity. She's eating less and less, losing the soft weight that's come as she's aged. She's been having strange conversations with drudges around the Weyr, and stranger conversations with her dragon in the middle of the bowl. She's turned away from her regular crowd to close herself off from the Weyr, erecting large signs outside her weyr reading, "KEEP AWAY-" "THE END IS COMING" and "THE BEGINNING IS NEAR" to the dismay of those who neighbor her.
Those closest to her are confused... it's a little bit late for a mid-life crisis, isn't it? They're starting to wonder if a mindhealer isn't needed. After fifty-three turns, is Bali starting to show signs of insanity (more than normal for those crazy Istans)?
August, 2005 It should have been routine when B'roughs went in to turn over his Wingleader's knot after nearly 20 turns of leading Griffon. It should have been but the question of succession came up, and there was a rather heated argument between the Wingleader (now former Wingleader) and the Weyrleader, I'van, primarily about the newest bronze rider in Griffin, R'kan... or at least that's what the gossips say.
B'roughs left angrily, with his knot, though this was handed over immediately to Brownrider M'thas (NPC), and B'roughs donned the knot of a mere wingrider. The Wingseconds were not announced. That was left up to the Wingleader though the gossips debate whether that was by choice or by coercion. The gossips also debate as to the nature of the argument between the now former Wingleader and the Weyrleader. There's even a rumor that B'roughs might leave Ista entirely because of this disagreement, but B'roughs has resolutely refused to say anything to anyone... at least anyone that's heard.
August, 2005 Moving out. Some may have noticed that Liette's been missing lately, and other may have not. Some may have seen her heading Fort-ward, and some not. The truth of the matter is she's indeed gone north, uprooting all of her children and shuttling them off to the northern weyr where, according to rumor, she's gotten rather deeply involved with a bronzerider. For now, she's supposedly there just to see out her pregnancy and be nearby to the Healer Hall, but some are beginning to wonder if she really means to leave when it's all over.

August, 2005 Pregnant again. The gossip began in the lower caverns, as usual. Though the two women's voices trailed off as an influx of riders came for dinner, the damage was already done and the news quickly spread around the weyr. Yes, Liette is pregnant again, and yes, it would appear the father is Ch'rron of Fort Weyr. As she's only now beginning to seriously show, it's not hard to imagine why no one noticed it before.
August, 2005 Waves of commotion. Klari's oldest daughter, at only fifteen, is now a mother to be. Making Klari a grandmother in her early thirties! Though who's the father is another question all together. Just when Klari was coming to terms with this idea, and feeling quite confident from her relationship with new weyrmate Rish, running into younger bluerider Adani in the baths was /not/ the best thing. There was taunting, teasing, hateful words, and Klari couldnt take anymore. Word is that Klari threw the first punch and then the fight broke out. The result? Adani with a beat up face and Klari with a concussion and a rather ugly bite to the arm, requiring stitches even. No one really knows what the punishment will be, but so far both have done some recovering and Klari's gotten back to sweeps (mostly doubles but no one knows if its punishment or coincidence) and a brand new weyr to accommodate Rish and Maialeth for when the couple isn't spending the other half of their time at Fort.
July, 2005 Welcome - becoming PC! Samari has been around Ista Weyr her /entire/ life! She's almost seven turns now so a few of you have at least heard of her. Remember that one time that Klari and Kr'lin had a kid? Yeeah, that one. Samari! Cute, little, momma's little darling. She lives!
July, 2005 Tapped. Adani & Misphith said so long to weyrlinghood when N'lon happened upon the humanoid protion of the duo in the lower caverns. After having admitted to her he was avoiding all contact with weyrlings, demand she trash that 'sir' title if she wanted to live happily and mentioning their next Wing rendezvous with talk of sheets and extra boots, he submitted her into Phoenix. Please send your condolences accordingly.
June, 2005 An unlikely source. Strange rumors have abounded about a most UNlikely source of a blacklisted item: Wingleader B'roughs, it seems always has some, and is always willing to share, though he does not seem to be doing anything in great quantities and there are no rumors of him selling it. As for /his/ source. He does have many siblings... most of them in Nerat, fresh crops are easy to come by there. Then again who knows. The Griffin wingleader is not known for being one to break the rules.
June, 2005 Black market klah. Word has it that greenriding Mara has been sneaking klah back into the weyr once more when she comes back from those visits to High Reaches. Reports are also saying that the rider hasn't been to shy about hiding the fact that she is happily brewing the stuff in her own weyr and is more then happy to share...for a price.
June, 2005 Reacting to changes. If the riders of Ista haven't seen their Weyrwoman around much lately, not since she and I'van returned from their trip, the grounded weyrfolk will be quick to assure them she is most definitely still around - and very much in their hair! Trying to wade through the mountains of records that Zuriele's edict created has kept her buried in the records room, while deciding how to smooth things over after Kabrielle's new regime has kept her buzzing about the lower caverns.
Taste buds everywhere will be glad to know that the selection of edible goods has been altered, or returned as the case may be, to more resemble what it was before Kabrielle's health-minded changes. Snack choices now include sweeter fair than just cheese, bread and fruit. Meat sandwiches and other concoctions are again on the lunch menu - no longer limited to just dinner. Due to Weyrleader I'van's backing, klah is still banned, but sugar has made its way back into the kitchen for cooking purposes even if its still not available to the general public for casual sweetening. And what of that nasty tuber rot problem? Katarra finagled a trade with Igen Weyr - their spare tuber supply for a considerable amount of fresh fruit. Of course, since Ista is already strained thanks to mismanagement Katarra requested I'van arrange for a wing or so to make a quick visit south to an uninhabited area and acquire extra fruit with which to trade.
The one change that seems to have met with overwhelming approval is that of improved clothing. Fashion being one area in which Katarra has a keen interest, she has seen fit to uphold directives regarding new clothing commissions and personally inspected the surge of material bolts to be found in the lower caverns. And if she cringed a bit over the abundance of orange, purple, black and white, she at least ordered a few other colors to add variety. A well-dressed weyr is a proud weyr, eh?
June, 2005 Graduation! In a lovely bit of pomp and circumstance on Ista's Beach, Ista Weyr's recent crop of weyrlings were graduated - though one has to finish a few 'remedial' classes before she'll be allowed to join her new wing. Congratulations to:
R'kau and bronze Kelsheth, Adani and blue Misphith, Angelica and brown Rensyth, Ambermoore and green Siddharth, I'ali and green Imaranth.
May, 2005 Flight! The weyrlings gathered for their lesson in the early evening in the training grounds, where a somewhat-greener-than-usual Vittorynth slumbered in blissful winter-induced coma to one side. Weyrlingmaster E'lyce began with the usual round of inspections, then changed the pace altogether - much to Klari's chagrin - making the weyrlings inspect each other. Just as things began, however, Vittorynth awoke, and chaos erupted! For that brighter-than-emerald sheen to her hide didn't just mean she was in good health, but that she was ready to rise - and rise she did. Following her were the older weyrling males - Angelica's brown Rensyth, Adani's blue Misphith, R'kau's bronze Kelsheth among them - as well as Weyrleader I'van's bronze Casairth and Klari's blue Daemith. After a quick-as-lightning blooding, the green took to the skies, where a misplaced wingbeat made her miss a thermal and propelled her right into the waiting clasp of Misphith's twining tail.
Poor Adani ended up curled into a ball on the floor of the Weyrling Barracks, as the other riders stumbled off into the night, with Weyrlingmaster E'lyce leaning heavily against the wall, unable by virtue of her position to seek relief as she might otherwise have done. A strange lesson, indeed, but one that underscores the fact that the weyrlings are growing up fast, and will soon be ready to graduate to full wingriders.
May, 2005 Klah ban reinstated. The klah ban at Ista Weyr has had a turbulent history so far, having been suddenly enacted, to much dispute, and then almost just as suddenly lifted with the return of the Weyrleader pair to the weyr. But almost as quickly as it was gone, it's back!
After spending part of the evening talking with cooks and those in charge of stores, the announcement went around - Kabrielle's ban on klah has been reintroduced, at Weyrleader I'van's command. Rumor has it that the klahbark already in the stores is being sold off to another weyr, and that healthy alternatives such as juice, tea, and water, are to take the place of klah in both the living caverns and the Klah Pot. While outroar can be expected among the general klah-drinking community, gossip is just as likely. Some wonder about the future of the Klah Pot, or at least the popular hangout-spot's name. Will it be changed? No one seems to know, although they do report I'van spending a good deal of time there the afternoon before the ban was renewed, allegedly having a lengthy conversation with visiting brownrider R'ish.
I'van's possible motive is also likely to be debated. Has he been swayed to Kabrielle's health-concious way of thinking? Does he have some inside information about the state of the klah industry? Has pressure from outside sources gotten to him? Does he just hate klah? One thing is for certain - while some will be horrified at this latest development, there are those (they know who they are) that will but just as glad as Kabrielle that klah is no longer easily available.
May, 2005 Open mouth, insert foot. R'kan thought he would be pleasantly surprised to come upon Kabrielle, I'van and Adani. Though the poor, tired Adani fell asleep in the Klah Pot, the young bronzer still had to deal with Kabrielle and I'van speaking about the changes in Weyr policy during the Weyrleaders absence. Though chivilrous, R'kan should have let Kabrielle defend her own ideas. Especially when it turned out she put the blame for those ideas on R'kan. But his biggest mistake was to smirk while defendng those ideas. He soon discovered the error of his ways and was promptly given the least wanted sweep duties in the weyr. Oh the joys of Weyr life... Now the poor young bronzer gets to grumble around the Weyr, when he's not trying to get that precious sleep or is out riding those sweeps that no one else will take. Take pity, make fun of, do as you will, just beware his shortening temper.
May, 2005 Homecoming. I'van and Katarra were treated to a decorative surprise upon their return to Ista Weyr. Someone(s) had exchanged the rich subtle tones that have filled their weyr since Katarra first moved in with vibrant combinations of orange, purple, black and white. Thoughtful as it was in honoring Ista's colors the tableau was quite a shock to the returnees - or at least half of them. The toddler twins loved their polka-dotted walls and immediately set about jumping on their new cots, tossing the dragon shaped pillows at each other. Katarra decided I'van was pulling another prank on her but he firmly denied it - which wasn't hard to believe since the bronzerider hates orange. The list of possible culprits is pretty slim after that and it didn't take long for the pair to figure out who the likely suspects were. Kabrielle and R'kan are due a visit.
It's worth noting, however, that after the initial shock wore off Katarra was heard to admire the wood plaque crafted for their entrance with each of their names engraved on it, and I'van found the purple cast given to the lighting by a crafty design applied to the glows rather appealing. The twins certainly like their festive alcove. So it just might be that when all is said and done the weyr may find itself with somewhat of a compromise between old and new decor.
This is only the first of many surprises that await the weyrleaders though as they settle back into their daily routines. Did the trip serve its purpose and mend their relationship enough that they'll finally be able to do their jobs and get the weyr back in order? What will they do about the not-so-subtle restructuring efforts of those in charge while they were gone?
May, 2005 Urgent news. Winter's here at Ista and so is the tropical storm type weather. Time to reflect and catch up on old hobbies! At least Klari was with the company of Weyrling R'kau. In pops a foreign firelizard with a note tied to it's leg. Upon reading it, Klari quickly packed and mentioned /something/ to R'kau about her mother, Annaly, Tillek, and having to go. And just like that, the assistant Weyrlingmaster was gone. What's happened? When will she be back? Must be important if Klari's left /that/ quickly for someplace /colder/ in the winter. Completely unlike her. She /never/ leaves the island.
May, 2005 Welcome! Lassara, whom many met as she has settled in with weyrmate W'on and has added a couple new faces to the weyr by way of children. You might find her more about the kitchens now-a-days, as when on working duty she can be found filling the role of Assistant Cook. Be nice and she might even slip you an extra treat or two when the Cooks aren't looking..
May, 2005 Contraband. For those needing a quick fix and possibly can't find Mara, you might just be able to pay a price, a more than normal price, for your own little baggie of klah powder. We're not just talking /any/ klah here.. This is top of the line stuff! As for who is doing these dealings.. It's staying rather hushed in order to keep things going longer.. But those that need to know will. Enough /has/ gotten out that it involves an Istan woman and a Fortian woman.. Riders? Very likely..
April, 2005 MIA. So where is Liette in all this? What has she to say about the strange edicts issued by the youngest goldrider? Nowhere, that's where. Rumor has it she's skipped weyr, taking the opportunity of lax supervision to visit Southern, and stay there a while. Zhyraeth hasn't been heard from in days, and the weyrwoman herself --well, let's just say she's not answering 'calls'. Trustworthy? No. Responsible? Not right now. Enjoying herself? Oh yes.
April, 2005 Grumpy E'lyce. Usually E'lyce is able to face most weyr issues with a fair bit of cheerfulness, especially if she ferrets out the reasons behind the policy changes - usually, that is, until she was most unkindly deprived of her usual five to ten cups of klah per day! Now, the Weyrlingmaster is suffering from whopping withdrawal headaches, shakes and the occasional (ahem!) bad mood. As a result, the /weyrlings/ are also suffering, and as the klah ban goes longer, the suffering gets worse and worse. E'lyce has taken to stomping about the weyr in a permanently foul disposition, scattering weyrlings and weyrfolk before her as she goes. Feel free to bug her - if you don't mind having your head bitten off.
April, 2005 Zureile on the rampage. Now, in an ideal world Zureile would get together with Kabrielle, Liette, and Rea and "whip the weyr into shape." They'd hold helpful little team meetings, formulate effective plans, instill team-spirit in the different wings.... In other words, /lead/. But this Zureile. A worrier under the best of circumstances, the fact that she has something to actually worry about has thrown her into a state of panicky fretfulness. The record room's a mess, there's misplaced shipments, and the tuber mold... Faranth save us, the tuber mold! With disaster lurking so close at hand, feeble little ideas like teamwork and leadership would be as effective as trying to talk Suryareth into dieting.
So while the drudges scurry about in response to Kabrielle's cleanliness edict, the occupants of the weyr begin to feel the squeeze from a different angle. Lists. Lists. And more lists. Apparently Zureile's decided that a thorough accounting of every single aspect of weyr life is what's going to save it from destruction. Would you like a mug of hot tea, to make up for the void the klah-ban has left in your life? Just as soon as you mark it down on the form. Are you looking forward to relaxing in your weyr after a long day of sweeps? Well, not before you finish detailing where it is you went, how long you spent there, the condition of the locations, etc, etc. How about a little late-night snack served up to you through the shafts? Well, now you have to sign and return the hide before the kitchens can even get started. Those foolish enough to try evade the forms have found themselves on the receiving end of a /very/ scalding lecture from an overworked, slightly maniacal goldrider who seems to be EVERYWHERE.
April, 2005 R'ea's contribution. R'ea is famed for her laid-back approach to management, and so far there's no sign that she's aiming to reform Ista's entire wing structure in I'van's absence. She's certainly working hard at something though, with a steady stream of riders coming and going from her office and weyr at all hours of day and night. Is she busy catching up on all that work, or is there a simpler answer? Some have reported that as her office door opens and closes, the scent of klah sometimes drifts out. Is the Weyrsecond trafficking in illegal food and drink? Surely not!
April, 2005 Kabrielle jumps in. For good, bad... or bad, Kat left three of the goldriders in charge of her end of things whilst she went on her vacation including her daughter Bree. Well Kabrie of course wanted to do her best to make her mom proud so started to think what she could do to help better the weyr in any way possible. A note was soon posted in the living caverns and several others more are being passed around to ensure everyone here's of what is upon the hide. The following is currently required at Ista Weyr:
- Klah is banned as it's thought to be bad for people possibly, as is sugar.
- Wherry and other meats will only be served with supper.
- All other meals and snacks are to be comprised of cheeses, breads, fruits and more cheeses as such things are thought to be quite good for everyone.
- Everyone is encouraged to air out their closets get rid of all their yucky clothes and see everyone at the weyr whom can sew to make them some duds that make them look better.
- Everyone is to clean their weyr from top to bottom and assist with cleaning of other area's in order to make everything nicer for Kat to see when she gets back.
- The colors orange black white and purple are to be used to make things more festive and as such fabric with these colors and paints will be found under the main note in the living caverns for people's use.
April, 2005 Homeward bound. I'van and Katarra have decided to try and mend their relationship by getting away for a bit and taking a much overdue visit to Katarra's home. Several days of preparations have handed the reins of weyr leadership to Weyrsecond R'ea for all things pertaining to wings and riders, and goldriders Kabrielle, Liette, and Zuriele for all domestic matters. What may at first have seemed like a mini-vacation for those left in charge is far from it thanks to the messy state of affairs left by the Weyrleaders. Will they manage? Will the weyr plunge deeper into chaos or actually survive their internship? The troups have about one sevenday to whip the weyr into shape or go down trying. Meanwhile I'van and Katarra will be trying to restore and recooperate, with I'van particularly attempting to make a good impression on Katarra's father and brothers. Let the mayhem begin!
April, 2005 Out of circulation. After an accident with a dragonet, one tripping and partially falling on her, Klari'd been supposedly taking it easy with orrible bruises taking up her left side and hip. Of course, that wasn't the case. Upon returning to the Healer, she informed them that she'd fallen from bed (there's no telling what happened), ran through the bowl, never iced her hip, and finally slipped while on her knees.. All affecting her injury and leading her to.. not walking, really. Turns out Klari's now stuck in the infirmary with a fractured pelvis. That oughta put a damper on things for a while!
April, 2005 Enough is enough. Zuriele, at least, has had her fill of watching things fall apart while I'van and Katarra pay more attention to their personal affairs than the well-being of the weyr. Finding a convenient, if reluctant, audience in N'ikos in the living cavern she raged aboutse the sad state of available food, noted the issue of tuber rot plaguing the supplies, and despaired that winter supplies weren't sufficient to meet the needs of the weyr. Katarra arrived just in time to spark Zureile's anger further and in typical bold fashion the junior goldrider didn't hesitate to mention the need for a supply list. Katarra dodged the suggestions and questions as best she could, aided by a series of distractions including recruiting N'ikos to assist Zuriele, jewelry shopping with a visiting Robbin (to which she charged a lovely new bracelet to I'van), insisting on ice for lukewarm juice, and finally N'ikos tripping over a bench. Meanwhile Robbin made out well selling more of his jewelry - R'ish even chipped in a mark to get Zureile a pair of earings.
April, 2005 Is it over? Bronze Casairth was sighted once again resting on his home ledge with golden Tajiath - this may well be an indication of light at the end of the tunnel. The Weyrleader hasn't been seen within a stone's throw of the weyr he and the Weyrwoman share for several sevendays now, ever since the pair had their major falling out. It seems I'van may have made the first move by joining Katarra and their twins on the beach. Amazingly they all got along! And the group all left together heading in the direction of their weyr. Since Casairth was still there in the morning it can be assumed that at the very least things are starting to look up for the pair. Truth be told, things are not all wine and roses just yet as I'van then disappeared for several days on weyr business. But when he returned and fell that same day, injuring his head enough that a trip to the infirmary was necessary, Katarra came rushing after him. True, I'van's injuries might have been exaggerated when relayed via dragon, but still she did go, and the two left together appearing rather cozy. (It was a close call as Klari had accompanied I'van on first arriving at the infirmary and stayed while he was seen by the healer. She and Katarra never crossed paths.)
April, 2005 'K'-onflict. So it was that Klari and Katarra ran into each other at the lake just as a weyrling class was ending, and just in time to see Klari get a good dunking thanks to Weyrlingmaster E'lyce. The various pairs dispersed but Katarra remained to soak in the shallows and Klari to wring out her clothes. Thanks to the acoustics of a lake and rock setting, everyone in the vicinity heard what followed. The first thing anyone can recall is Klari's voice suddenly ringing out heatedly toward Katarra - something about why the goldrider was there and her being mad at Klari. Katarra yelled right back claiming she didn't owe Klari any explanation for being there, but yes, apparently Klari had done something regarding the Weyrleader. Vague references eventually erupted in an accusation of infidelity until it looked like the pair were going to come to blows! Fortunately they didn't, Katarra storming off at a firm hobble from the lack of one shoe while Klari simply sat down and cried till her blue came to the rescue and swooped her up to go home. With weyr maintenance already a mess thanks to I'van's inept leadership and Katarra's distraction from duties, will this be the last straw in an already fragile situation?? How much more will the weyr's population suffer - or take? Will Klari pull through this latest in a series of unfortunate and stressful events in her personal life? Will weyrling Adani recover after being in the wrong place at the wrong time to be the prime witness and briefly even a temporary target during the scene?
March, 2005 The Klari chronicles continue. After Klari's second youngest, Samari, escaped from her nanny and got a drudge upset over a bowl of her food making people sick, the talk easily turned to how much they couldn't stand the actions of the youngster's mother. Klari and D'nic are no longer an item and rumor says it was indeed Klari's fault - the nanny thought the bluerider had been pregnant but didn't carry. To make matters worse, whether it would've been D'nic's was up in the air. And to top things off, Klari apparently expressed feelings for Weyrleader I'van to Weyrwoman Katarra! One thing is certain, Klari has been spending some time in the supply caverns getting things to fill a weyr. And it looks like the blue pair have been staying in their old place.
March, 2005 Time off for trouble. With Ista's latest hatching now past, Liette and Zhyraeth have escaped the hot sands and disappeared off on 'vacation', or so they said. Rumor has it though that Liette has a different reason for leaving the weyr and has been seen around Healer Hall, visiting with some of the craft's higher ups. What's going on? What's wrong with her? Speculation has been running wild... The only rumor about it that may hold some merit is that Liette has once again found herself pregnant, and yet young Brien isn't even 6 months old yet. How did this happen? Other than the obvious, apparently the weyrwoman's milk dried up and she found herself having to use the services of a wetnurse from the lower caverns. Apparently she must've found the services of someone else too, because now she's pregnant, and after having trouble with the last one, one so close to the first isn't good for her health.
March, 2005 Hatching! Ista Weyr's latest clutch, that of gold Zhyraeth and brown Rhyolith (N'lon) finally made their big debut. Twenty-two eggs deposited three bronzes, four browns, six blues, and nine greens. Among the ranks were new weyrling pairs: Adani and blue Misphith, Ambermoore and green Siddharth, Angelica and brown Rensyth, I'ali (Shihali) and green Imaranth, and R'kau (Rikau) and bronze Kelsheth.
March, 2005 Togetherness. Candidate Coordinator Z'en (puppeted by Katarra) still isn't sure how the whole thing actually started, but what /was/ obvious were the results. Ambermoore found all the stitches removed from her clothing by the expert hand of Angelica and Angelica found herself without any fresh clothes at all after they were removed by the revenging Ambermoore and placed in Z'en's office. At least Ambermoore was kind enough to leave a note for Z'en that somewhat explained the situation. Z'en decided the best (and most philosophical) way for the two to work out their differences would be for them to be forced to cooperate on a daily.. and personal basis. Thus the two candidates were called before Z'en, and after a lecture long enough to put a dragon to sleep, they left with one wrist each bound to the other with a very short length of cord. Instructions were that they should proceed with their regular chores and daily duties (not the least of which was repairing/replacing each others clothing) without slacking on any of them but /never/ should the cord be undone until Z'en himself released them. So.... Will the two survive without killing each other? Will their fellow candidates survive such a feisty combination in their midst? Will Hatching Day see two less candidates or two stronger candidates presented on the sands?
March, 2005 More babies. Just a few days beyond a week after the first cry was heard from Kabrielle and R'kan's weyr a second cry was heard. Not long after that a healer was summoned and came back out full of news she was more than willing to share. The mystery child was indeed R'kan's sister's, born of a flight and not wanted by the mother. Baby Denatre was named for her mother and father by the healer that delivered her at Fort Weyr. The newest addition just born to R'kan and Bree has been named Lerrylk by his proud parents. With three children all under two turns old it's sure to be a noisy place for some time.
March, 2005 Mystery baby. The cries of a baby are once again being easily heard from the direction of Kabrielle and R'kan's weyr although when spotted during the brief times R'kan lets her out to wander the weyr she is still pregnant. Rumors has it that the baby is from a sibling of R'kan's from another weyr but the couple themselves haven't announced anything. They could however just be too busy juggling their first child, young Rielka, the new mystery baby, and Bree's own pregnancy.
March, 2005 Patchwork wardrobe. It wasn't a good day for candidate Ambermoore. First there was a down pour that plagued hunting efforts. Then there was the fact that most animals have better weather sense than most humans so they were snuggly in their hidey holes when Ambermoore came looking. Unfortunately Ambermoore didn't have her cloak and the subsequent down pour soaked her to the skin for the second time this sevenday. She could have dealt with that. She easily could have dealt with that. Except when she opened her clothes press to get dry clothing, lo and behold! Every last uniform in there had been un-seamed to it's component patches of cloth! Which left Ambermoore cold, wet, and more than a little angry. The frilly, lacy underthings left on top as a calling card didn't leave much doubt as to the culprit nor to the imagination when worn. With a few curt words to the others in the barracks and taking a rather mangled stuffed... something (It isn't well made enough to say for sure /what/ it is) with her for safe keeping she stormed off in search of dry clothing. The question only remains how will Ambermoore retaliate? /Will/ she retaliate given her curent position?
March, 2005 Leadership issues. It was inevitable, really. I'van hasn't been himself since winning the role of Weyrleader. Youth and inexperience showed themselves more and more as the days went by and he became more frustrated, grumpy.. and just plain messy! Katarra, being her usual blunt self, wasn't exactly helpful when calling him out on it, which only made him angrier, which only sparked her anew, etc, etc... There was poking, there was name-calling, and even a shoe thrown but eventually they managed to come to a conclusion: I'van left and Katarra kicked him out. Which version depends on who you talk to. Will I'van ever recover all the personal items Katarra threw off the ledge? How long will it last? How can they possibly run the weyr when they won't stay in the same room together, let alone carry on a discussion or make a decision?
March, 2005 Bedrest. Kabrielle was in the living cavern feeding and playing with her daughter Rye while chatting with T'ye rider of Brown Penningtonth (NPC) when somewhere amidst everything else she managed to wind up fainting. She was hauled off to the healers [also known as those she generally avoids at all costs] and Rye was hauled off to be watched by a friend while T'ye tracked down R'kan by way of his dragon. Bree's now been sentanced to bedrest in her weyr save for five hours total allowed out of bed either until she pops or until the healers decide otherwise. It's actually enforced by the only threat likely to work with her... the threat of being stuck in the infirmary.
March, 2005 New addition. That Liette was already very pregnant when she went onto the sands with her lifemate Zhyraeth isn't all that unknown, though there are still those taking bets about the father even now that the child is born. Slightly premature, the event happened on the sands themselves, as the weyrwoman was confined to cot-rest in that location and not moved when the labor pains finally struck her. A few weeks early and only five pounds at best, the weyrwoman has named the male child Brien, and is still failing to give any hint as to the father's name. All anyone really knows is that he looks nothing like N'lon , the father of Liette's first child, Liton.
March, 2005 Searched. Poor Kabrielle managed to get someone at Ista Hold to help her get some plants transported back to the weyr having them fly back with her with the promise of them helping her plant the mint. Part of the deal was a meal though and by the time Bree got back she herself was hungry so she proceeded to haul Shihali to the living cavern to get some food for both of them only to get stopped halfway across the bowl by D'kath and Cardasianth (NPC) who decided Shihali had to stand for the current clutch of eggs and made Bree lose her assistant planter at least for a bit whilst the girl got settled.
February, 2005 Revenge. Angelica, one of Ista's new Candidates decided to get R'kan back for Searching her. With some help from Kabrielle, R'kan's own weyrmate, she managed to pull a prank on the poor bronzerider. Kabrielle took R'kan to the baths for a little relaxing time. He closed his eyes and relaxed while Kabrielle washed his hair and put a new bathrobe on him. Only his hair came out very pink and the bathrobe was a frilly pink dress adorned with ribbons that Angelica designed just for him. The dress fastened in the back so he couldn't get it off himself and all his clothes seemed to have disappeared. Poor R'kan was then tricked by Kabrielle feigning a mood swing into following her into the Living Cavern, apologizing profusely while still wearing the dress. It was there that Angelica and Rikau blocked his escape route, leaving him to be admired by all those in the Cavern at the time. After some teasing and whistling R'kan finally managed to convince Kabrielle to help him get the dress off, but only when they got to their weyr.
February, 2005 Searched. Off on one of her rare tangents, Mara decided that it was high time to go a wine buying at Ista Hold. As the pair landed they came face to face with Rikau. Once their arrival was explained, Rikau proudly stated that it was easy to snitch a skin or two of wine from the stores without being noticed. But then Nafanth begun to snuffle, and wuffle and snuffle some more at just about anyone that passed her way. The more the rider and Rikau talked the more the green became determined that she wasn't about to leave Ista Hold without something more then just the wine they origanally came for. Poor Rikua suddenly became the object of Nafanth's attentions, and soon enough Mara was asking the boy if he was a hard worker and if he would agree to stand for the clutch now resting upon Ista's hatching sands. He agreed of course, and now is installed in the Candidate barracks with a new white knot on his shoulder.
February, 2005 Clutching! Once more Zhyraeth made her way onto Ista Weyr's sands, without telling her lifemate that she was going to do it, no less. When Liette arrived, the queen had already laid one egg and would soon lay more until the final count was twenty-two in total. While the eggs arrived, Liette looked increasingly ill, sitting to the side on her chair, but what's going on, no one really seems to know.
February, 2005 Welcome back N'ikos. Recent spottings of a thin, curly-haired man sitting in the darker corners of the Living Cavern have confirmed the rumors. N'ikos, rider of bronze Camenath, is back at Ista after a nearly 15 turn stint at Benden Weyr. Why he originally left and why he's now come back, no one seems to know. And you probably won't get much of an answer out of Nik since he's rather infamous for being terribly shy. Though Camenath is even stranger, constantly harping on the importance of cleanliness and complaining about the lack thereof. Definitely not your normal bronze rider, nor your normal bronze.
February, 2005 Hatched. They shook, they hatched, and away they went! Having been late to arrive, Tajiath and Casairth's clutch (Katarra and I'van) warmed and hardened quickly, sending a new group of 25 NPC weyrlings into the waiting clutches...er, hands of Weyrlingmaster E'lyce. The sands are quickly being cleared of shards and fragments as everyone knows Zhyraeth (Liette) can't be far from filling them up with eggs again.
January, 2005 Welcome back A'zain. So where's he been all this time? At Igen. With a longtime weyrmate named T'yr (who'd ever thought Aza would 'mate a man?!). Now A'zain is back at Ista and he's brought brownrider T'yr with him and they have taken up residence in Aza's old weyr and will soon be out and about as Aza shows his weyrmate around the place where he Impressed Lhokiyeth.
January, 2005 Flight! It was pure carnage at Ista Weyr this night, at least in the feeding pens as Ista's gold Zhyraeth took to the skies, leaving behind her suitors but taking with her a pretty prize. Said prize was dropped into the chasing pack, a single wherry sent sailing to crash into brown Rhyolith, who in turn flicked it away only for it to land on someone's ledge. If that weren't bad enough, said same brown threw a herdbeast carcass onto someone else's ledge and the entire feeding pens were in a complete state of disarray. So who won in light of the bloody mess? Why, brown Rhyolith of course, though his rider N'lon could be heard accusing Liette of setting him up. Everyone knows she asked him for another child, but the two have /not/ been on the best of terms of late... Also participating were L'o and Bronze Govanath, Ttana and Brown Sidamath, and N'lon and Brown Rhyolith for taking part in the flight.
January, 2005 Consequences. Of course no official announcement was made - only rumors can fill the gap until actions reveal the results. But the rumors say that N'lon was ordered to spend an hour each and every day scrubbing the entire section of wall until every last remnant of color is gone. Good thing his brown is just the right height to reach the uppermost areas. No doubt the rock soaked in the paint well, so there's no telling how long N'lon will be slaving away washing and scrubbing the surface. Guess that depends on just how much zest/anger/muscle/frustration the brownrider puts into it.
January, 2005 Speculation. With the appearance of the rather crude looking painting on the Eastern bowl's wall, some have speculated as to it's meaning and a few have come up with a rather sound theory: Clearly N'lon's pining for the goldrider Liettein the picture and is trying to prove his love for her with the painting. It's become a rather popular theory in fact and one that's wildly accepted as others fail to see reasoning behind it otherwise.
January, 2005 Weyr Art. Sometime during the night, someone or some people were busy construction a painting on the rock wall in the eastern bowl, right by the living caverns entrance. Composed of natural sources with a paste-like consistency, this woman's abstract portrait will not last long in Ista's tropical weather. The watchrider claimed nothing was heard or seen out of the ordinary and it seemed like the piece was constructed by the light of dragon eyes. While the subject of the image is not clearly identified, the author is and many have stopped to stare and wager guesses at this strange appearance.
January, 2005 Eggs! Lots of glossy ovals once again dot the sands as the resulting clutch from Tajiath and Casairth's flight appear. Late in arriving, they are a large bunch and hardening quickly. Katarra has set up her usual camp on the sands edge full of only the barest 'necessities', as she sees fit of course.
January, 2005 Raccoon Stargazing. So how does the new Weyrleader of Ista Weyr begin his tenure? Memorizing the records system? Embarking on a tour to inspect the major Holds and meet their Lords? Introducing reform and kissing babies? Of course not! This is I'van we're talking about here. /He/ can't resist pulling a prank on the Weyrwoman. Liette was witness to the mischief, arriving at the Star Stones to find Katarra and I'van using the distance viewer. I'van apparently wanted to show Katarra a unique star he'd seen previously. The dark ring left around Katarra's eye was obvious immediately, but I'van managed to convey a silent message to Liette and conversation carried on as if nothing was amiss. Eventually though, I'van couldn't stand it any longer and gave himself away. As soon as Katarra realized what had happened, I'van moved as if his feet has sprouted wings of their own, vaulting onto Casairth and fleeing the scene of the crime with Katarra hot on his heels. He might've gotten away temporarily, but eventually he'll have to go home and there's no doubt that his raccoon-eyed weyrmate will be eagerly awaiting his return. A midnight mass is expected within the next day or so in loving memory of brave but foolish I'van.
January, 2005 New Weyrleader! In atypical fashion, Katarra's golden Tajiath flew a fast and furious flight last eve, dodging into hiding amidst a lone cloud in an otherwise starlit night. That didn't fool her pursuers for long though, and with one arcing swoop she rose high and far then dropped into the waiting wings of bronze Casairth. On the beach below, a bonfire lit the small group of riders who roasted pastry puffs and generally fooled around, getting giddier and sillier till the moment when the catch was made. Young R'kan with bronze Chaerath and M'tego with bronze gave Casairth a flight for his marks, but it was I'van who claimed his weyrmate and the title of Weyrleader for the first time.
January, 2005 At it again. Braving the afternoon heat, Liette paid an uninvited visit to N'lon to chew him a new one concerning gifts of sharp pointy objects to their young son. More yelling was audible from the mouth of N'lon's broken-looking weyr. When the brownrider left, there was the sound of ripping fabric and a very satisfied-looking goldrider skipping back to her quarters. The inhabitant returned to find his precious wardrobe of high-priced and luxurious articles of clothing ripped and shredded (yes, even the crushed velvet!). It was then N'lon's turn to scream. The lower caverns amuse themselves with talk of the hard-to-get-along-with dragonrider wearing burlap or better yet - a barrel. Whatever occurred up there, N'lon keeps his collar raised high to hide an alleged bite mark bruise on his neck and vows retribution.
December, 2004 Baby worries. What started out as a discreet trip to the Healer Hall turned into quite a scene as bronzerider R'kan arrived with infant daughter Rielka bundled in his arms and Katarra, who had cajoled the unwilling weyrmate of her daughter into bringing the child for an examination by the CraftMaster despite the fact that they both knew Kabrielle wouldn't approve. When neither the CraftMaster nor CraftSecond were available, Katarra put on a rather unseemly display of temper. Fortunately a very skilled Master was quickly brought in and performed an exam under the close scrutiny of the adults. The diagnosis was that the child's eyesight is indeed lacking and not only could be permanent but possibly even get worse. Master Bollard requested to examine the baby once a month for a while, but R'kan finally put his foot down and adamantly refused, even when Katarra's temper flared once again. The goldrider stomped out, flinging more than a few words over her shoulder. Now the questions that remain are: Will baby Rielka's eyesight get worse? Will tempers continue to flare between parents and grandparents over the situation? And as for those bets... how long will it take for the rumors to get back to Kabrielle and how many days will it take her to skin R'kan alive when they do?
December, 2004 Welcome! Aeva, daughter of Ista's former headwoman Aeon. She's been here all along with her two siblings (still NPC).
December, 2004 Welcome! A certain black haired brat has been seen wandering around the weyr lately. And as she's spent increasingly more time here, more answers have started to emerge as to who she is and what she's doing. Turns out she's Tanaya, a product of a flight in Telgar ten turns ago. And the culprit rider? Ista's very own B'roughs! Her mother is Toyana, a greenrider at Telgar who isn't a big fan of children. And when Tanaya got a little too old to be mommy's cute little baby, she figured it was daddy's turn and had Tanaya dropped off at Ista. She seems to be settling in (with lots of complaints about how much better Telgar is than Ista), and has basically alternated between goofing off and generally being an irritation and frequenting the nursery to help the nannies with the younger kids, which even the nannies have to admit she's not bad at.
December, 2004 For the most part, R'ea has done far better as a Weyrsecond than most people would have expected. For a woman whose motto is 'Anything for a Laugh', she's taking the job fairly seriously. Certainly, she's been getting a fair stack of hidework done in neat, harperly handwriting, providing K'vair with the best skins she can lay her hands on, and her son Sivego - now almost two - is a model citizen. As toddlers go. In other words, all this good behaviour was all bound to come to a screaming halt sooner or later. And that end has come - with push ups. Nobody's quite sure where she got the idea - some say it was one of the Fortian goldriders, others are suggesting a trader on his way through mentioned it, or simply pointing out that she's quite mad enough to come up with this scheme on her own. Whatever her inspiration, the rumour mill is suggesting that R'ea is lobbying anyone who'll listen to institute a fitness regime for the weyr's riders. Will she succeed?
December, 2004 Gold flight/Baby! Surprising everyone but those immediately involved, Kabrielle's golden Niliath took to the skies on her maiden flight. Only two bronzes were quick enough to chase, her weyrmate R'kan's Chaerath and the overly confident bruiser F'lynn's Blarneth (NPC'd by Katarra). The flight was high and quick. Niliath obviously had only one choice in mind and went easily into the wings of Chaerath. Only a candlemark later though their human halves received an unexpected surprise when Kabrielle went into labor. Fortunately the labor was quick like the recent flight, no doubt pushed along by her wanting to avoid a healer being around and the insistence of those quickly gathered by a worried R'kan that she have one. Despite their efforts the baby decided to come anyway and Katarra had to step in as wetnurse, albeit a very finicky and nauseated one. Fortunately the healer did arrive just as the baby came and was able to finish the process, thanks to crutch-laden I'van. Blood-leary Katarra had seen too much and nearly fainted, finding refuge in I'van's lap. As the newborn girl was handed over to her parents, healthy and adorable, R'kan was even able to briefly forget the pain in his hand that Kabrielle had crushed. The baby was named Rielka, dubbed Rye for short.
December, 2004 Fish. It was late afternoon when the screaming started, Liette's all-too-familiar voice raised over the general din of the weyr at large as she chewed out everyone and anyone she came into contact with. Now, this wouldn't have been all that unusual but for the subject of her ranting and raving: FISH. It would seem that some over-zealous suitor of her lifemate Zhyraeth got it into his head to drop a ton of fish onto her front step -- in fact there was so much fish it actually rolled down her stairs and into her weyr. Needless to say the goldrider was rather irate when she arrived back at her weyr only to find it swimming in sea life, some of it not quite dead yet and the other half already so dead it was beginning to stink. Though Liette has yet to find the culprit, anyone dealing with her had better watch their necks as she's in no mood to be nice just now. And whatever they do, the'd better not offer her seafood.
November, 2004 The question. Was it coincidence or intentional that R'kan and Katarra's paths hadn't crossed in anything but extremely public view since the announcement was made about his and Kabrielle's impending parenthood? R'kan certainly had heard plenty about the weyrwoman's temper, but he bravely broke the ice by visiting her weyr... alone! Well, technically I'van was there, but he was mostly asleep on the other side of the weyr which left R'kan facing Katarra alone. The setting was just right with the hearth crackling gently nearby and casting a soft light over the pair as they sat facing it in high-backed chairs. R'kan asked Katarra for her permission to weyrmate Kabrielle. Things didn't look good for the bronzerider for a few minutes as Katarra questioned his motives, but R'kan won the day by answering correctly. Impressed that he even asked and satisfied with his answer Katarra gave her blessing, I'van went back to sleep, and all is once again right in the world. (At least till the next crisis.)
November, 2004 Misunderstanding. It started days before, but came to a head as Katarra was just leaving the infirmary from visiting I'van. W'on was with her, having helpfully assisted by carrying a chest of hides for I'van to read while he was bed-bound. R'kan appeared and confronted W'on, physically threatening the bluerider for insulting Kabrielle by calling her fat when in fact she was pregnant and upsetting her terribly. W'on insisted she had brought it up in the first place, he hadn't known she was pregnant, and he hadn't meant to insult her with his response. It didn't matter, R'kan wanted revenge. I'van didn't help matters by egging things on in the background, quick to side against W'on for personal reasons of his own. Katarra had to literally step between the two young riders and demand their attention with strict instructions that they wouldn't come to blows. W'on was advised to better watch his choice of adjectives around women in general, let alone pregnant ones, and while normally an apology would be in order he would be better off to simply avoid the hot-tempered Kabrielle for awhile. Everyone parted but anger still simmered and poor W'on was pegged even further as the Weyrwoman's pet.
November, 2004 Infirmary woes. I'van is not an easy patient. Add to that Journeyman healer Casandra (NPC), who's constant doom-and-gloom outlook isn't very inspiring, and an overly peppy chatterbox apprentice harper (NPC) who Katarra helpfully assigned to keep him company and assist as needed (just see if I'van ever complains about being bored again after that!). It's no wonder the poor bronzerider is at his wits end and willing to risk life and limb to get back to his own weyr and bed. At least there he'd only have to deal with Katarra's excessive fussiness and trying to overdose him with fellis. As it is he's already been loopy enough to confuse visitors Klari and Kabrielle both for his weyrmate!
November, 2004 Confirmed addition. A few people who came across Kabrielle before her mother's fortieth turnday may have guessed, but at the small celebration the immediate family held for Katarra the secret finally came out. It turns out that the weyrwoman's daughter is pregnant... and yes it is R'kan's. Kabrielle certainly has been clear on that to anyone asking.
November, 2004 Storm! It was a brave group of Istans who answered the call for help last evening when a fierce storm struck Redfield cothold endangering both the family and their priceless stock of herdbeasts. Frightened by the storm and the dragons, the herdbeasts weakened the fencing until a close strike of lightning lit a tree on fire and spurred them into a stampede that sent everyone diving for cover. Fortunately the riders reacted quickly and protected the family, Kabrielle and Niliath taking the lead in getting them off the ground, while others battled fierce winds to round up the fleeing herdbeasts (Won's Suranzalth even plucking one from the swollen river) and shore up temporary fencing. Unfortunately some injuries did occur. I'van was caught off guard by a maddened bull that literally ran him over, fell on him, then got up and ran from his would-be rescuers still dragging the bronzerider like a ragdoll. R'kan's Chaerath and Katarra's Tajiath managed to surround the bull and it came to a sudden halt crashing into Tajiath, cracking the gold's wingspar and dying instantly. After quick field dressings were applied by the cotholder's wife and Angelica, I'van was air-lifted by his bronze Casairth to the weyr infirmary and as the storm began to die down inventory was taken and promises made to return and help the family with repairs.
November, 2004 To give him credit, I'van tried to break the news to Katarra in the best possible way, at the best possible time - but it was an impossible goal. Upon hearing that her daughter was pregnant by long-time beau R'kan, Katarra hopped out of bed and headed for the bowl heedless of her light gown and intent on personally strangling the young bronzerider. Fortunately I'van was prepared for just such a reaction and with Tajiath's help (she blocked the entrance with her bulk) he kept her from carrying through with it by hefting the irate goldrider over his shoulder and tossing her back in bed, literally having to sit on her till she calmed down. Unluckily for I'van, Katarra had never put down the hair brush she had been using so he now sports a nice size lump on his forehead. Eventually tempers cooled and Katarra even agreed not to give away that she knew until Kabrielle could tell her mother herself, but feelings are definitely going to be ruffled for awhile.
October, 2004 Tapped. The newest addition has been made to the ranks of Istan wingriders as Phoenix gains a new recruit by the name of E'lyce and her lifemate Vittorynth. With wingleader N'lon called away on an errand, K'vair stopped by her weyr to deliver the news and knot, only to find Katarra already present and in the midst of sharing a drink to toast being the first visitor to the young pair's weyr. And so the toast became a double celebration with twice as many visitors and the presentation of a knot as well. The only surprise was that the news didn't seem to settle well with E'lyce at all, and the visit was cut abruptly short. The curious weyrleaders were left with their curiosity, but hopefully N'lon will be able to sort things out.
October, 2004 Caught! What happens when you forget your Super Sleuth Silent Bunny Slippers? Apparently, you get tapped for a wing! While attempting to 'borrow' yet more of her mother's clothing, weyrling Kabrielle accidently roused her younger sister from sleeping. As soon as the toddler called out, Katarra and I'van woke up too. I'van soon went back to sleep, but not before spilling the beans concerning the purpose of Kabrielle's late night visit. (Apparently he knew - the traitor!) Fortunately for Kabrielle, Katarra actually had set some clothes aside already with the intention of giving them to her. And as a bonus surprise, they came along with a brand new shiny junior goldrider knot.
October, 2004 Welcome! Angelica is the new Seamstress here at Ista Weyr, but not because she wants to be. It's only because she has some experience sewing and mending and has come to the horrifying realization that wherever she chooses to live she'll have to work to earn her keep. Basically Angelica is lazy and would rather avoid work if at all possible. Her dream is to become the bride of a rich Lord Holder so she'll never have towork again, so she's a bit deluded as well. She's very attractive and knows it, never appearing to think twice about flirting with men to get what she wants or snubbing any other women. Generally she tries to keep her emotions hidden from everyone and refuses to share her innermost feelings.
October, 2004 New weyrs! Five weyrs sat empty and vacant, awaiting the arrival of their new occupants. Some were older, some were newer, but all had their own unique character. The announcement was made and the ex-weyrlings shoo'd out of the barracks to stretch those wings and search the ledges both within the bowl and out for one specially marked for them and their lifemate.
October, 2004 Graduation! Congratulations to the five weyrlings turned full-fledged riders, E'lyce, Kabrielle, R'kan, Velura, and W'on. After a grand ceremony held on their behalf, the group was turned loose for a few days of freedom before being scooped up and put to work in their official wings.
