into A conservative blog for
peace or one of its related reference pages. I first made this site
literally in the last days of 1999, first trying my hand at site-making with
(gack) AOL’s 1-2-3 Publish. I looked at the results, said
‘Aagh!’ (actually something more colourful) and
set out to
do better, which I’ve been doing v-e-r-y slowly ever
since.
Not only has this site been an exercise in teaching myself HTML but
then, as now (more successful than ever in blog form since January 2003), it
has a message with several points:
It is Catholic but not a diocesan or denominational house-organ. Traditional
religion in a post-modern world.
It
is libertarian, having been formed especially since 2001 by the writers
and thinkers of lewrockwell.com.
It is liberal in the sense
of classical liberalism, or of individual rights and liberality versus modern
liberalism: pro-free market.
It is conservative in the sense
of individual responsibility (of which liberality is a part), small government,
minimal spending, the importance of local custom and non-intervention in
foreign policy, like the American Old Right before World War II.
WARNING: May challenge
and even demolish your pre-conceived notions of Christianity and
conservatism.
We’re not the Protestant Religious Right.
We’re not the Republican Party.
A lot of these ideas of course aren’t my inventions. I’m
standing on the shoulders of giants.
This site’s message has been refined and more focused since 9/11,
for which both my faith and my formation from LRC had prepared me.
But this blog isn’t all serious: as in many others there are jokes
and info and opinions on what’s happening in other blogs, in television,
at the cinema and even in literature now and then.
