Plants have always been the corner stone of our business. Acer Gardens  offers perennials, ground covers, herbs and shrubs to plant enthusiasts (like ourselves). Remember, we are not plant brokers who represent many companies but a small company that knows and grows it's own plant material.

We grow approximately 120,000+ perennials (1500+ varieties) each year.  They are started as either seed, divisions, rooted cuttings or tissue culture plants.  New and cutting edge varieties are evaluated each year.  Some plants are eliminated because they didn't live up to expectations and others are expanded on. The perennial field has developed over the years but is far from mature.  It is always exciting to see what the new trends may be.  In my opinion we are going to see an increase in native plants and alpine gardens.

As for our annuals - wow.  We just don't have enough space to grow all the plants we would like to try.  The days of geraniums, petunias, marigolds and impatiens aren't over but they now have to make room for, supertunias, calibrachoa, calitunias, diascia, verbena, anagelis, coleus, convolvulus, lantana, dicholdra, bracteantha, osteospermum, scaevola, nemesia, and on, and on...

Trees are another segment of our business that is very exciting.  We start our trees from liners or bare root plants.  In the future we hope to start grafting.  At this moment we are growing over 75+ varieties of Acer palmatum.  We also grow Acer japonicum, griseum, circinatum, glabrum and a few others.  You will also see many type of cherries, crabapples, fringe trees, etc....The trees used to be grown in the ground.  We have converted our tree growing to 5gal, 7gal, 10gal, 15gal, 20gal, & 25gal. containers so that homeowners can leave with a plant at any time of the year.

Shrubs are an important part of any landscape.  We try to carry a wide variety of plants that will fit almost any situation.  Each year we carry more natives and deer resistant plants

Poinsettia, this is included by it’s self because it takes a lot of effort.  We start our plants in early August from rooted cuttings and begin sales the beginning of the Thanksgiving week to a few days before Christmas.  Production includes approximately 1500 plants, 9 varieties, in 800 pots.  Every day this crop is closely monitored.  I feel we produce the best plant I have ever seen and our customers will be sure to agree.  The plants are well branched, with many bracts, and will last long in to the following year.  This crop is difficult and very expensive to grow.  Since we do not grow or sell cut Christmas trees the trade off is that it keeps us  going  later in the season.

Acer Gardens is not a garden center but rather a plant nursery.  Other items that are offered are potting soil, our own bulk soil/compost blend, bulk shredded bark mulch,  fertilizer, grass seed, hay and fall bulbs.
