Formerly a psychiatric occupational therapist at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Mass, Janet Meakin janetmeakin@aol.com now works as an Early Intervention Specialist at Dimock Community Health in Roxbury.
Born and educated in England she subsequently became a Norwegian citizen, arriving in the United States in 1988. She holds a masters degree in Expressive Therapy from Lesley College (1983), and a Master of Liberal Arts in Extension Studies (Psychology) from Harvard (1997).
She is a certified Trainer, Educator and Practitioner of Psychodrama, Sociometry and Group Psychotherapy, and currently on the Faculty of the Family Institute of Cambridge. She is a member of the Action Methods and Video-Feedback Interest Group at FIC www.actionmethods.com. She has four years of training each in the Feldenkrais Method of Awareness Through Movement and in Bioenergetic Analysis. She consults to mental health agencies on the application of action methods to individual and family therapy. Her primary passion is the interplay of structure and spontaneity in promoting personal development and professional awareness.
Janet is now working towards certification in Integrative Manual Therapy www.CenterIMT.com . For the past five years she has been promoting the practice of Integrative Manual Therapy in the treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorders and consulting to the families of special needs children.
