Adak - Birthplace of the Wind

My tour on Adak at Zeto Point Nov. 1970 to Nov. 1971

Bill Linhart former Communications Technician T-Branch

The intent of this page is to provide some pictures and a message board for those who served on Adak who might want to get in touch with long lost friends or just share memories.

Please use the message board near the bottom of this page to post messages relating to Adak. The best part of this site has turned out to be the messages posted in the guestbook. I am only sharing the pictures, you are sharing the memories. The pictures are arranged by areas and can be viewed by clicking the underlined topic in the left margin.

Zeto Point from Reeves Aleutian Plane 1970 (picture upper left and Zeto Point page)

It was like flying into an old black and white godzilla movie, everything was brown and foggy gray. I couldn't believe this island was on the planet earth. It looked worse than the images conjured up as a result of the ribbing one took upon receiving orders to Adak. The volcanoes on the approach and the wrecked planes alongside the runway made for an uneasy landing. For years afterward I was haunted by a dream that I was sent back for a second tour on Adak. Never have I experienced so much wind and rain, and cloudy overcast rotten days. To this day when people complain of bad weather I just chuckle to myself. But we did manage to have fun and create some good lasting memories.
