Rocky Road Spinning Speaker Pedal Modification

I purchased a Rocky Road pedal, and after reading the reviews on Harmony Central, I decided to try the modification that many people had mentioned.  The resistor is R44.  All of the instructions on Harmony Central mentioned soldering directly on to the surface mount resistor.  I have many years of experience soldering and repairing electronics, and I didn't want to try this.  Plus I would probably have no way of reversing my work if I ever wanted to.  Here is a picture of the resistor.  Click on the pictures to see full size.

I took out my trusty ohm meter and found that one end of the resistor connects to the level potentiometer.  The other side goes off in other directions, but there is a solder pad on the opposite side of the board that connects to this side of the resistor.  It seems that the mod just allows the level control to be set to absolute zero, where before there was always some amount of extra drive added to the signal.

So if you want to perform this mod, here is a simpler way to do it, and you can reverse it later if you want.

1st, take off the knobs carefully.  Pry slowly from side to side and they should pop off.

Now take the bottom cover off and remove the screws holding on the circuit boards.  Don't worry about taking off the wires that connect the boards together.  You can do the modification leaving them connected.

Now this is the board you want to add a wire to.  I have marked the two points that need to be connected.  The first is the middle connection of the pot. The second is a pad right above the R46 label.

Now here is the same board with the wire added.  Then the next picture is with the board mounted in the case.

Now the test, I set the pedal level to zero and the speed about mid range and played a riff before I modified it and after.  Click on the before and after

I hope this is helpful to someone else, and saves them from destroying a good pedal.
