About
the Scholarship
Vision:
To serve our People, to serve our University, to serve
our Countries.
Mission: To have a
perpetual $1000 annual FASA scholarship. The scholarship
will be funded by generating a Virginia Tech Endowment
of $25,000 or more during a one-year period.
Values: In the
process, we hope to instill the values of service,
community and excellence with all involved.
The Filipino American
Student Association (FASA) at Virginia Tech was the
brain child of Gary Encarnacion and a group of energetic
students with the idea of helping students learn of the
heritage and serving their University.
EJ Bernabe
started a scholarship fund in 1990. The first
recipient of the scholarship was a Filipino American
high school student in Philippines. Then in
the Spring of 2000, FASA officially renamed the
scholarship fund after Rhonyll Seballos, a well
respected member of the club who passed away in January
2000. Rhonyll
was a key member of FASA, dedicating much of his time to
the club during his collegiate years.
He joined the club in 1991 and played a major
role in recruiting new members.
His appreciation for his culture was evident and
inspired other young Filipino Americans to follow suit
and learn more about the meaning of being
"Filipino".
As an alumnus, he remained active in the social
scene and mentored many of the incoming freshmen members
of FASA. Rhonyll's
legacy remains throughout the Virginia Tech Filipino
American Student Association, with its members and
alumni, and in his family and friends.
This scholarship fund is a way of keeping his
spirit alive, while helping others reach their
scholastic dreams.
Today FASA is a dynamic
organization that has grown several fold since its
conception. Find
out the comings and goings via the FASA
website.
"My personal hope is
for the scholarship drive to be an example of service to
our people, our university and our countries. May our
actions inspire others to be generous with their time
and talents. (For everyone to whom much is given, from
him much will be required, Luke 12:48)"
