Q. Is the donation tax deductable?

A: Absolutely. VA Tech Foundation will be issuing a receipt for the funds donated. Use this receipt for your IRS tax filing for the appropriate tax year. The scholarship committee will also perform an independent accounting of funds donated to insure the integrity of the scholarship drive.

Q. Who will be managing the $25,000+ endowment?

A: The VA Tech Foundation will be managing the endowment in perpetuity. The endowment will be placed in the VA Tech Portfolio currently earning 4.1% interest annually. The interest generated will be used for the annual $1000 scholarship. Any money, from the interest generated, not used will be placed back into the endowment.

Q: How do you award the scholarship?

A: The current process is under review and the official rules will be posted by
Cultural Night 2003.

Q: What is the scholarship for?

A: The $1000 will be transferred by the VA Tech Foundation into the Student’s University account and can be applied to items such as tuition and room and board at the university.

Q: Who can apply for the scholarship?

A: The scholarship is limited to students who are full-time VA Tech students and paid members of FASA.

Q: When is the scholarship awarded?

A: The scholarship will be awarded at Cultural Night. The $1000 scholarship will be awarded spring 2003.

Q. What is FASA?

A: The Filipino American Student Association is located at Virginia Tech.

Q: How can I help?

A: There are two avenues for support. The first is donating money to the fund. The second is donating time by helping out at fund raisers, contacting VT/FASA alumni, organizing events, etc… Just drop us a call or email.
