IB PROGRAMME

We’re making great progress toward establishing an International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in Highlands County!  On October 15, 2008 Sebring High School received notification that they have been officially accepted as a Candidate School for the IB Diploma Programme. More than 40 students from Sebring, Lake Placid and Avon Park have begun to take preparatory classes, and teachers and administrators have already begun to prepare for the anticipated International Baccalaureate Organization authorization visit in the fall of 2009.

We sincerely appreciate that the Highlands County School Board and Superintendent Wally Cox have made such a strong commitment to improving services for our district's advanced students in these challenging economic times.  The district is coordinating the entire IB application process, and also provides the salaried personnel, support and facilities needed to allow our most motivated high school students to reach their academic potential.  

We are also energized by the tremendous community support being shown for the IB initiative in Highlands County. The quest to bring the IB Diploma Programme to to our small school district has resulted in a generous outpouring of community donations, and these supporters deserve our infinite praise for providing the funds needed to cover required start-up costs.
