My wife, Norma is interested in ponds and we put one in the back yard complete with goldfish. They are doing quite well as we started with ten and now have a family of 35 and still growing. We keep the babies in aquariums and put them up for adoption.

Our original combination filter/pump/fountain
proved to be inadequate, so we invested in a larger capacity filter and
pump system. This filter is located outside the pond for easy maintenance while
the pump is submerged in the deepest part of the pond. The filtered water is
returned to the pond via two routes, a decorative well pump and a direct tube
from the filter. A valve adjusts the amount of flow from one to the other.
UV Filter We have recently added a UV kit to the Bioforce Filter.
For crystal clear water consider adding a UV filter / clarifier. You will better see your fish and the underwater ecosystem at work. Clarifiers also create a healthier pond by controlling the spread of disease to fish, plants, wildlife, and humans. UV radiation aids filtration by making algae cluster together in clumps large enough for mechanical filters to trap.
Trouble in the Pond
The
other day I saw a great Blue Heron land in my yard. Since that time we have lost
over half the fish to this sea bird. We covered the pond with a net but it
destroys the the looks and the mood that was so nice when it is uncovered. After
