Postpartum Doula Services (Delaware Valley Birthing Partners) In today’s society, new parents leave the hospital and the care of nurses within 24 hours of their baby’s birth. Families are spread apart, and new parents must try to do it on their own. Armed only with what they have learned in a baby care class or a book, new parents may find that adjusting to life with a new baby is completely overwhelming. A postpartum doula can make this transition easier. Armed with experience and patience and a sympathetic ear, your postpartum doula will hold your hand and help you embrace your “new” life. Doulas offer the following:
Postpartum doulas do not take over care of the baby, or impose their styles on you; rather they will provide you with information and support, and help you find your way. Your doula has a list of hundreds of area resources to meet your various needs - from nursing supplies and lactation consultants, to car seat safety and support groups for children with special needs. People who use postpartum doulas find that the adjustment is easier. There is a lower incidence of postpartum depression, and parents find that their greater confidence facilitates bonding . Postpartum doula care is customized to fit YOUR specific needs. Postpartum doulas work in 4-10 hour shifts. Should you require continuous care or more hours than one doula can possibly provide, your needs will be met by the doulas of DVBP. Delaware Valley Birthing Partners is a postpartum doula co-op. All doulas are trained through Doulas of North America to provide high quality postpartum services. All doulas are trained to assist you with breastfeeding, and all are CPR and First Aid certified. All are insured and work together to provide you with the continuity of care that you deserve. |
