About A Gentle Start
A Gentle Start Childbirth Services is founded by Angela Leonard, IBCLC, LCCE, CD(DONA). Angela is the mother of three beautiful children and believes that childbirth is an experience to be treasured. Angela’s first child was born by cesarean section and she often felt a scar from his birth. She always felt that had she educated herself more fully during her pregnancy, her choices during labor and thus the birth would have been different. She suffered from postpartum depression after his birth. Two years later her daughter was born gently and naturally with the assistance of a caring midwife, her supportive husband and wonderful doula. It was after seeing how birth should be that Angela vowed to help other women discover the strength and power of their bodies. With her three month old nursling in tow, Angela attended the Doulas of North America's birth doula training and within a year was a DONA certified doula. Her faith in her body and in birth restored, Angela gave birth to another daughter in April of 2003. This beautiful baby was born in water, at home, under the watchful care of her midwives, and with the tireless support of her husband and doula. Angela attends births at all area hospitals, birth centers, and has attended home births. Angela is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator. She is currently employed at a large Philadelphia hospital as a lactation consultant and educator. She is a DONA certified birth doula, and an active member of Delaware Valley Birthing Partners. |
