The Basement
Half of the basement was 'finished.' Which means it had panelling on the walls that had been painted beige and a drop ceiling made up of foam panels that were stained from rust dripping off the galvanized pipes. The Basement as it has been for the last 15 years. In the series of photos that follow, pay particular attention to the vent on the left side and the drain pipe on the right.

First round of tear out. You may be able to see several bits of galvanized piping in the ceilings, which were all replaced. |
Tear out completed. You can see all the way through into the other half of the basement. My workbench is directly under the fluorescent light you see. You can also see that the electrical wiring is much neater, as the electrician has cleaned up the existing items and installed the new lighting fixtures.

Most of the framing was salvaged, which saved us a nice chunk of change. The vent hole has been closed with a peice of sheet metal and rivets. There was no way to move the drain-pipe, so it was decided to enclose it and create a small closet around it. |
| The heat ducting has been covered using metal framework, which will give a couple of inches more head room then using wooden framing. | ![]() |

Here it is all drywalled up nice and neat! The drywall has now been sealed with a drywall primer, but we won't paint and put in carpet until we can move back upstairs. Then we'll put the finished products in photos! |
