The Remodel of Our Home
This is the starting point for the second remodel.
So here is the current remodel as it progresses!
We needed to move the laundry room to the main floor, out of the basement. And after living in the living room area (see remodel below) for a couple years, we weren't thrilled with the configurations that were available for the furnature. The room was long and relatively narrow, running about 22' x 12'. There was little choice as to where the television could be placed, and no options on the fireplace. When the couch was facing either one of these focal points, the room was cut in half. And if you faced it at right angles to them, the couch was in the middle of the doorwall, making access a challenge.
The house was originally built on a half acre lot in 1957. It was a typical ranch, one of three basic floor plans used in the sub-division. About half of them were built on a slab, we were fortunate to have one that had a full basement. Over the years many of the homes in the area have been remodeled and added onto.
This is the second major remodel we have done to the house since moving into it in 1988. The first was predominantly a reconfiguration of two-thirds of the main floor and finishing two-thirds of the basement. For the full story of those changes:
