Holy Ground: Exploring Mid-LifeTransitions Exciting opportunities abound for millions of Americans who are entering the cauldron of middle-age, a time of remarkable transition as people respond to the question of what is "next for them." Because they are living longer, healthier lives, this generation is reinventing what it means to grow older. Anticipating another 40 to 50 years of life, retirement to a future of leisure is no longer the invitation it once was. People long to do more, to stay involved and engaged. Doing the work of this stage of life requires a journey inward, to discover deep longings and motivations. It is a rich and holy journey. The following are topics for mid-life transition:
Weekend RetreatsWe offer weekend retreats on a variety of topics related to the spirituality of aging. We are happy to discuss possibilities with any individual or group interested in sponsoring such a workshop. Look under Current Workshops to find whether there are any weekend open to the general public at this time. Conference PresentationsWe tailor our conference presentations to the needs of the sponsoring organization. A typical length is from 1 hour and 15 minutes to 3 hours. Frequently we present techniques to use in helping clients do life review and forgiveness work. Other topics include tapping into elder wisdom, preparation for death, and aging as a spiritual journey. Support GroupsWe are available to work with people who wish to form support groups around a variety of topics related to the spirituality of aging: grief and loss; caring for aging parents; mid-life transition; responding to my soul's longing as I age; writing my life story; or creating a legacy. We can facilitate the formation of a group and suggest resources or we can work with a group over time. One-on-One GuidanceCarol Scott-Kassner is a licensed spiritual director who is available to work individually with people as a spiritual companion, helping them to explore their relationship to God. Pat Lewis is a Hospice care giver who serves as a companion to people who are dying and their families. Both of us can work with individuals on a variety of topics around spiritual issues as we age. Consultation for StaffsWe are available to work with staffs of hospitals and retirement communities or adult day facilities to consult around issues regarding the spiritual needs of clients and how to meet those needs. We also enjoy addressing ways to meet the spiritual needs of care-takers as they face the challenges of ongoing loss in their work. |
