About the St. Paul Fly Tiers
Purpose of Organization
History The club was formed in 1952 by interested fly fishers and casters. It is the oldest fly tying and fishing club in the Midwest. Members of the club created many popular fly patterns and fly tying methods. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to sharing the camaraderie that our sport embodies. The club is composed of many great people from many different walks of life who share the common bond of fly tying (or the desire to learn) and fishing with the fly. The organization was founded prior to the commercial availability of the materials, equipment, and information necessary to fuel tying and fly fishing passions. Originally one of our purposes was to provide a source for furs, feathers and other materials almost impossible to find in the '50's and '60's. Now we work with all local fly shops to promote our sport and encourage all to patronize them fully. Fishing Outings Nearly every month, the club organizes a fishing outing. These fishing trips encourage new and old members to explore the wonderful fishing that the Twin Cities area has to offer. Several trips are scheduled for the entire weekend, while others are single day trips to areas near the Cities. Each fishing outing is run by Lunch Captains. These people coordinate arrangements for the meals. Club dues cover the total cost of fishing outings. Club outings are for panfish, smallmouth bass or trout. We strive for excellent adventure and camaraderie with plenty of good food served to all that partake in these wonderful outings. Why Join?
Meetings Meetings are held every Thursday evening at 7:30 PM. Location is Tin Cup's Restaurant at 1220 Rice Street (Rice & Maryland), St. Paul.
