While Howdy is recuperating with a couple of months off from work in high tech he decided to remodel not just one, but two bathrooms.

Before...

Girls bath:

During...

After planning out the layout and ordering the new items, Howdy started on the girls' bathroom in the beginning of February.  He first removed the pocket door that went from the master bath to the girls' bath and framed in the future wall.

We then attacked the window on a day our babysitter had the girls.  It was supposed to be in the 50s but in true Boulder weather it ended up being in the 30s with flurries.  Howdy spent 9 hours getting the new window in, with Aileen joining him for 5 hours.

   All gone...

Ta da!

The next thing to go was the vanity, and here Jules was a big help.  Jules has been fascinated with what Daddy is doing to her bathroom.  But why fix it if it wasn't broken?!  After all our explaining if you ask her what her Daddy is doing she will say "Making a BIG mess"!

Howdy then learned the hard way that above most sinks are vent pipes.  Since we planned on a recessed medicine cabinet, there was a day of rerouting the vent pipe and getting the rough-in ready for the cabinet.

As in all projects we had many "we might as well" add-ons.  So we decided to upgrade the lighting in the bathroom as well, so Howdy had an electrical day where he ran wire and installed boxes for 4 new lights in the bathroom and eventually eliminating the overhead light.

Then came the fun day of removing the wallpaper.  Luckily we had already removed a lot of the drywall, which we have decided is easier than removing wallpaper!  The only fun part about this is seeing what paper and paint colors the bathroom used to be.

Another change we made was to remove the doors for the shower to eventually put in a curtain instead.  Safety and ease of bathing the girls were the motives behind this one.  But of course once Howdy removed the doors a couple of tiles came off and we realized that the shelf in the tub had water damage.  This added on a week of removing, rebuilding, and retiling the shelf.

This is where we are as of the end of February.  We still have to get the new drywall in, texture and paint.  Then get the vanity and sink, medicine cabinet, and new carpet installed.

After...

Now in June we can finally call the first bathroom done!

And the final test, the girls love their bathroom! (Although Jules still wants to know why we fixed it when it wasn't broken -- good question Jules!)

And then of course it's on to bathroom #2!
