LATE LAST NIGHT test screening!!

The Witchfinder General has been a faithful reader and contributor of the site for a long long time. When I first began reporting on the Star Wars Special Edition back in newsgroups, but now once again like those days of olde he has strapped on his gear in search for films to burn, but instead this one got the best of him. He loves LATE LAST NIGHT and I have to say I hope he's right. I really liked Emilio's last film which was shot here in Austin, but he's been a bit disappointing over the course of the last decade or so. Hopefully, he's getting his legs under him again and we can say his name again without a shudder. Well, here's the Witchfinder General's look at LATE LAST NIGHT...

Just caught an industry screening for an ultracool, extremely funny new Emilio Estevez pic called LATE LAST NIGHT. I went with a friend who knew the editor or something like that. Anyway, written and directed by Steve Brill (I think he's somehow connected to Estevez through the Mighty Ducks Trilogy), this independent comedy should propel Estevez back into the limelight. (I've always thought he was the best of the brat-packers, and deserved better than the Loaded Weapons and Mighty Ducks!!!)

Echoing pics like AFTER HOURS and SWINGERS, LATE LAST NIGHT is about a guy whose wife is leaving him. As she's packing up her things, he goes out for a night on the town with his best friend (Steven Weber) and well, mayhem ensues. It all takes place in one night and its filmed in some cool LA locations.

In addition to Estevez, Steven Weber (from Wings) is absolutely hilarious in this. I think this guy's gonna be big someday and here he turns in another great performance to follow up his role in SOUR GRAPES. Also there's great cameos from the guy who played Adam Sandler's caddy in HAPPY GILMORE and his best friend in the Wedding Singer (i don't know his name); as well as the guy who played the bad guy in KINGPIN(not Bill Murray, but that evil boyfriend guy). And Catherine O'Hara has a funny little part too.

The print I saw had some color problems and some of the edits were weird (the director said it was still a work in progress), but regardless, the dialogue and performances were stellar and I can't wait to see this again in its completed form.

I think this may be one of those small independent releases that hits it big. Its got some really funny quotable lines and Estevez and Weber are really great together. Keep your eyes open for this one. It was produced by some company called Screenland Pictures (I've never heard of them, but they had a cool logo) I don't know when it'll come out, but definitely see it if you can.
