Croagh Patrick - Stacked Oats County Mayo
by Edmund Sullivan
Ireland in all its most colorful glory! Truly one of Edmund Sullivan's masterpieces, this brilliant August landscape of the "Holy Mountain" is where St. Patrick fasted for forty days and nights. This is where he banished the snakes from Ireland. Every year on the last Sunday of July, pilgrims tail up the steep rough track to the summit. Fifty thousand people a year take this arduous climb over sharp and jagged rocks.

This important Sullivan painting is Ireland as you will want to remember her, rough, and stony and mysteriously cloudy with lush pillows of land reflecting the shafts of sun playing over the landscape. How long will this remain so untouched by change and history?
