All things bright and beautiful. All things great and small, All things wise and Wonderful; The Lord God made them all.
Each little flower that opens, Each little bird that sings; He made their glowing colors, He made their tiny wings.  --- Cecil F. Alexander

Welcome to my web site!

All of the pictures on this website were taken with our Olympus Camedia C-730 Ultra Zoom 3.2 Megapixel or C-765 Ultra Zoom 4.0 Megapixel digital camera I really enjoy taking pictures of nature and I wanted to share them with my friends and family. All of these pictures have been taken by my husband or I through our apartment window, near our building, and throughout Maryland, as well as birds pictures taken throughout North America.  I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I do!

Please check out my other website, Aiy's Nature Pictures, which has pictures which have been taken on vacations and hiking trips throughout North America.

May 2005
We went on a Critical Area Driving Tour along the Patuxent River, that ended at the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary.  While we were there, we saw an osprey and an eagle in flight, as well as an osprey catching a fish out of the river!

April 2005
The Cherry Blossoms were late in coming this year to Washington D.C., but they looked spectacular!  We went a couple of days before peak bloom to avoid the major crowds that we ran into last year.   The blooms were still beautiful and this year we could make it all the way around the Tidal Basin.  I also got a number of new Tufted Titmouse pictures.  The pair that frequent the pine tree behind our apartment kept coming back for about an hour!

March 2005
Check out our new goldfish, Tink and Irvell, in My Critters. Sad news, Tink is no longer with us. :(

Spring migration brought Bufflehead ducks to our local heron pond.  I saw them on my way to work, and my husband took pictures of them before they flew away.  They are small diving ducks (compare to the Canada geese in some of the pictures).  I just came back from conference in Texas and saw some birds, including a Carolina Chickadee, some American Coots, a blue heron, a Northern Mockingbird, a Common Grackle and a Downy Woodpecker, in Texas Nature.

Two tufted titmouses have visited our feeder a lot lately.  On Easter Sunday I saw a beaver in the heron pond, happy as can be swimming in circles while I took his picture.

February 2005
We participated in the Great American Backyard Birdwatch on Saturday the 19th.  We started just by seeing what came to the birdfeeder, but we only saw House Sparrows and Cardinals.  So, we went back to the pond behind our apartment to try and find other local birds.  We saw Ring-billed Gulls, Canada Geese, Carolina Wrens, a Carolina Chickadee, a Tufted Titmouse, a Crow, a Downy Woodpecker and a Northern Flicker.  Later, I also saw a Red-tailed Hawk sitting on a signpost.

My husband and I took advantage of a warm February Sunday to drive to Elk Neck State Park on the Chesapeake Bay, then onwards to Philadelphia.  However, before we left, I spotted a beautiful red-shouldered hawk sitting in the pine tree behind our apartment.  We had not seen one in over a year, but this time we were prepared and got some great pictures, including one that enlarges, in Raptors.

January 2005
This weekend turned colder, but we saw some beautiful bluebirds (in Small Song Birds) at Great Seneca State Park.  We also saw a downy woodpecker (Woodpeckers), some mallards and some Canada Geese.  At home, I got some nice pictures of some Juncos ( also in Small Song Birds) in the pine tree outside our apartment.

December 2004
On the final day of the year, I was able to get a few more pictures of one of my favorite birds, the Belted Kingfisher, in Shore Birds.  I also saw a great blue heron along the shoreline and added a few close-up and shoreline shots in Great Blue Herons.

October 2004
Fall finally reached our neck of the woods!  We celebrated by visiting Great Falls and C&O Canal Park in Maryland.  The sky was somewhat overcast, but it couldn't hide the beauty of the falls and the autumn colors, in Maryland Nature. A pair of tufted titmice visited our bird feeder, in Small Song Birds.  We drove out to Green Ridge State Forest in Maryland on a scenic driving tour, also in  Panoramas2.  The road was very bumpy, but the overlooks were beautiful.  ___________________________________________________________
September 2004
I took some pictures of a Great Egret in  the smaller pond by our apartment in Other Herons, an on my way to take the pictures I saw a couple of cute fawns, in Deer. ___________________________________________________________
August 2004

July 2004
I just added ~40 new pictures to my website!  About half are of Great Blue Herons, which are now their own category.  Pictures were also added to Butterflies 2, Flowers, Small Song Birds, Large Song Birds, Insects, My Critters, Woodland Critters and Deer.

Finally, I got a decent picture of both male and female kingfishers! (in Shore Birds) They are very flighty birds and never stay in one place for long!  Also, in Herons, many new pictures of Great Blue Herons.  I also got a picture of and Eastern Kingbird, in Large Song Birds.

June 2004
We saw a number of tiger swallowtails (in Butterflies) and dragonflies (in Insects) this weekend.

I saw a beautiful great blue heron on my way home from work so rushed back to get my camera.  I got some great pics in Herons.  After it flew away, a night heron flew past with a big fish and proceeded to try and eat it for at least the next 15 minutes, also in Herons. The fish was so big it didn't have success the entire time I was watching!

May 2004
My website is new and improved!  My pictures no longer enlarge, but I have made the thumbnails larger for better viewing.  I tried to divide the pictures up into more categories so that each page does not take as long to upload.  This is my best solution so far to be able to post my pictures and still have room for new pictures.  The latest addition to the site is an osprey (under Raptors) that I saw flying over our apartment building. Also, a green heron was spotted in a nearby tree under Herons.

Spring is in the air! We have seen many new birds on our balcony, on hikes and at the pond nearby.  Check out catbirds, cowbirds, bluebirds, downy woodpeckers and red-winged blackbirds under Small Song Birds and Large Song BirdsI finally got some pictures of one of the herons that lives by our pond in Herons.  I also saw a cute deer couple nuzzling before they ran off in Deer

April 2004
This is our first spring in Maryland, so we had to see the Cherry blossoms in D.C.!  You can find our pictures from the Cherry blossom festival under Flowering Trees and Panoramas.
