2005 ANNUAL MEETING MINUTES
Jay Savel, President, welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked the committee members for the work they did during the past year. There were 17 members in attendance, one of which was a new member, Bob Soule.
Ellen stated that the club’s treasury was approximately $2,700. After paying for the banquet, we would have $2,500, which is about $300 less than last year. This year we tried to keep all prizes the difference between the green fees and what we paid. Our goal is not to tap into the treasury for prize money.
We have 38 members – 28 paid. There are 3 new members and 3 potential. Potential members came from our posting on the NCGA website, but Kaaren said new members are still needed. She also added our club still has one of the lowest membership dues. Kaaren will follow up with members who have not paid.
The 2005 Club Championship was played at Boundary Oaks. Jay Savel presented the trophy to this year’s winner, Matt Bowyer. Congratulations again Matt!
Wayne was not in attendance this year, however, cards with the 2006 schedule were handed out. The 2-day club championship for 2006 will be held at Lone Tree Golf Course. October’s tournament was still to be determined, however, Wayne was looking into Callippe Preserve, a new course in Pleasanton.
CLUB RULES
The prior 3 years we have had a $65 flat fee. Tournament fees averaged $57 last year and will average $62 for 2006. American Golf has raised prices to $81 and no discount.
There was
much discussion on this topic. Many
liked keeping the flat fee and discouraged tournament fees based on golf
course. Some suggested raising
membership dues to $65 instead of increasing monthly tournament fee. It was even suggested that we surcharge for
more expensive courses or charge more for club championship. Jay presented 3 choices to the members:
The motion
carried to keep flat fee at $65 for 1 more year.
Earlier in
the evening, members wanted to keep membership dues the same for next year,
however, it was later agreed to raise annual dues for 2007 to $65 for current
members and $75 for new members.
We discussed sponsoring our club champion to play in the NCGA Net Amateur Championship held at Poppy Hills in October. More details would follow such as price and exact date. If club champion could not attend, the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th place player would be asked. Motion was made and it unanimously passed.
MOST IMPROVED HANDICAPS
There were 11 men that improved their handicaps for 2005. Jerry Wagner was the most improved going from 11.9 to 9.1. Kaaren Walsh was the most improved woman going from 31.3 to 31.2. Way to go Jerry and Kaaren!
Jay asked if any members would like to volunteer for the Tournament Schedule Committee. There were no takers. All other committee members were in favor of staying in their current roles for 2006.
OTHER ITEMS DISCUSSED
Kaaren Walsh will look into the Handicap & Rules Class. It’s usually a ½ day and she’ll see who would need or could attend.
It was suggested to post pairings on website before tournaments. Jay thought it was a good idea and would work with Al Monteclaro on this matter.
