ALAMEDA NAS GOLF CLUB
2006 ANNUAL MEETING MINUTES
Once again the President, Jay Savel, welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked the committee members for the work they did during the past year. There were 16 members in attendance this year.
Ellen stated that without new membership fees, the treasury was at $3,146.63. Last year’s treasury was approximately $2,500. The club paid out approximately $1,163 in 2006 due to keeping the flat $65 per month tournament fee.
We had 55 paid members last year due to posting our golf club information on the NCGA website. Jay thanked Kaaren and Al Monteclaro for jointly working on this. This year we had 4 to 5 foursomes every tournament and the new members were very active. Only 24 members have paid so far. Our dues were raised for 2007 and NCGA raised their fee $5.
Jay Savel presented the trophy to this year’s winner, Matt Bowyer. Matt has won 4 out of the past five years. Congratulations again Matt!
Thanks to Wayne for setting up the schedule again for next year. Wayne was not in attendance this year, but cards were handed out with the 2007 schedule.
Jay asked those in attendance if anyone would like to do any of the committee jobs in 2007. There were no volunteers, so we will continue with the same committee next year.
MOST IMPROVED HANDICAPS
There were two women that improved their handicaps for 2006: Laurie Barkley 18.1 to 17.3 and Karen Loria 26.1 to 25.8. A total of 12 men improved their handicaps last year. The top 3 were: Kyle Farris--18.0 to 15.3, Bob Kaplan—13.1 to 11.0 and Ray Zaragoza—14.5 to 13. Congratulations to Kyle and Laurie who will be given a bottle of wine for their improvement.
ISSUES TO REVISIT
· Club Membership Dues: They were raised significantly last year from $45 to $65. NCGA has raised their fee $5 for 2007. Members were opposed to another increase in 2008 for dues; therefore, club membership dues will remain the same.
· Tournament Postings: Everyone likes pairings and tee times being posted on club website for monthly tournaments. This will continue for next year.
· Tournament Fees: For 2006, the average tournament cost was $67. As previously mentioned, the club paid out over $1,000 for the year due to the current flat fee of $65. Jay proposed raising monthly tournament fee to $70. It was opened up to the floor and it was seconded. Starting January, fee will be $70. However, it was mentioned that all members should have a say in the increase not just those in attendance. It was suggested that a survey be sent out via email in 3 months (March 2007) to see what all members would be willing to pay, pay $10 surcharge for more expensive courses, etc. Wayne got a deal with American Golf again for 2007.
OTHER ITEMS DISCUSSED
· NCGA Net Amateur Championship: Matt Bowyer said he couldn’t fit it in his schedule this past year, but will try to do it this year.
· Handicap & Rules Class: Kaaren Walsh said 1 member is sent every 3 or 4 years. It’s usually a ½ day run by NCGA and a test is given at the end. Kaaren was the last member to attend.
· Rainouts: Will reschedule all rainouts.
· Poppy Hills: Some members voiced an interest in playing Poppy Hills. We can talk to Wayne plus didn’t know if people would like the long drive.
