ALAMEDA NAS GOLF CLUB

2007 ANNUAL MEETING MINUTES

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2007

President, Jay Savel, greeted everyone Happy Holidays and thanked those attending this year’s meeting.  There were 23 in attendance this year.

ELLEN HABER, TREASURY

Ellen reported that the treasury was at $3,799.59, but we have not paid the $200 deposits for Shadow Lakes and Deer Ridge.  Last year’s treasury was approximately $3,100.

KAAREN WALSH, MEMBERSHIP REPORT

We had 47 members last year and have one new member for 2008, Dave Johnson.  So far 33 people have paid their dues for 2008.  Those that do not pay by December 31 will have a $10 reinstatement fee paid to the NCGA.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

This year’s club champion is Miles Adler.  He was presented the trophy by President Jay Savel.  Congratulations Miles!

WAYNE BOYKIN, TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE

Once again cards were distributed with the 2008 tournament schedule.  Two tournaments were scheduled in June…Santa Clara and Deer Ridge (Brentwood).  Holding 2 tournaments in 1 month would be discussed in more detail later.  Thanks again to Wayne for taking on this task.

NOMINATION OF COMMITTEE

Jay thanked all the committee members for their work over the past year.  He has talked to Kyle Ferris about running the tournaments in the future since he has been doing it for a number of years.  Kyle said he would consider it.  Jay asked if anyone would like to volunteer for any of the committee positions.  Since no one did, he asked if the current committee is willing to stay on for another year.  We will continue with the same group.

MOST IMPROVED HANDICAPS

A trophy used to be given for most improved handicap, but for the past few years Jay has handed out a bottle of champagne.  Donna Hanson was the most improved for women and Jon Prezlar topped the list for the men.  Neither Donna nor Jon was present, but they will receive their prize at a later date.

OPEN DISCUSSION:

Survey Results – Al Monteclaro reviewed the survey results with the group.  We had 35 responses.  Please see website for complete results.

2009 Membership Dues – Jay doesn’t see any reason to raise dues.  We do not want to discourage new members.  We still have the cheapest membership fees in the area.  Motion was carried to keep at $65.

Monthly Tournament Fees – The motion was also carried to keep monthly tournaments at $70, but charge surcharge for more expensive courses so net $0 pay out for club.  Last year Poppy Ridge actually cost club $75, which resulted in a net loss of $245.  Our most expensive course this year will be Callippe, which costs $86.

Hold 2 Tournaments in 1 Month – According to the survey, majority did not like having 2 tournaments in 1 month.  We currently have 2 scheduled in June—Santa Clara and Deer Ridge (Brentwood).  Wayne will be contacted to see if we would incur a penalty to cancel Santa Clara since most voiced they would rather play Deer Ridge.  (Since our meeting, the Santa Clara tournament has been moved to December 2008)

Minimum Play for Club Championship – The question was raised if we should keep the 2 tournament minimum in order to play the club championship.  Valid reasons for keeping were postings for handicap and money for club comes from other tournaments.  It was decided to keep the 2-tournament minimum play for championship.

Mid-week Play – We were asked to consider having occasional mid-week play.  Call them outings and no prize money will be awarded.  Is anyone willing to do that and help organize?  Jay will to talk to Wayne about it.  Castlewood and Fall River Mills were a few suggestions.  Also, there was a suggestion of playing Poppy Hills in October (mid-week).  It would be less expensive for a hotel and a lot of courses will let clubs play 2 days on weekdays, but not on a weekend.
