FBO-15

2002

Every endeavor must have its own sub-language.   Science fiction fandom, for instance, has its "filk" singing, "huxter" rooms, etc.   Aviation is no different.   When I worked at the local airport, I learned that planes don't fill up, they "top off" their tanks.   The refuelers aren't called attendants, they're "linemen," or even less politically correct, "lineboys."

"FBO" is an acronym for "fixed base operator," which is aviation vernacular for a refueling point for small, usually non-airline aircraft.   In other words it's a euphemism for fillin' station.   I did a series of pieces I called FBO's which were supposed to be refueling points for interstellar craft in various stages of upkeep and at various technology levels.   The series was really an excuse to churn out some simple formula pieces in between the more difficult projects.

FBO-15, here, is the most recent and quite small example.   I actually started it many, many years ago and then rediscovered it and finished in 2002.   Though I used to have a catalogue of my works, I have lost track over the years, so the number "15" may be inaccurate.   If anyone has already purchased an FBO-15, I'd surely like to know so I can adjust the title/numbering system.
