Terminator Landing
1985
A small painting.  The ship is inspired by the shape of a male emperor penguin with its beak pointing upward.  It wound up looking Jim Burnsian in shape.   The name "Terminator Landing" doesn't have anything to do with Arnold Schwarzenegger. It refers to the idea of landing on the terminator of a new world, the area between light and dark, so explorers would have an entire day of work -- or an entire night if that is more convenient.   It's a moot point since the days on Epsilon Indi 2 (shown here) last only four and a half hours.   It was really an excuse to paint a pretty sunset.
