Wyandotte Receive the Lincolns and Guests The Lincolns paid a visit to Wyandotte, Michigan on Saturday, September 7 and Sunday, September 8. They appeared at the Marx House on Biddle Street from Noon to six on Saturday and Noon to five on Sunday. They had with them, as special guests, Sgt. and Mrs. Ross Fowler of the 102nd U.S. Colored Troops, who shared some fascinating stories of the role of blacks in the Civil War.
Lincolns Visited Bay City The Lincolns appeared September 28 and 29 in Bay City, as they visited there for the River of Time event in Memorial Park. Near record crowds stopped by their campsite for a chat with them and General and Mrs. Grant. Mr. Lincoln made his well-known Gettysburg Address each day. The candlelight tour on Saturday evening was very successful. General Grant and Mr. Lincoln entertained the crowds on Sunday with stories of the Civil War.
Lincolns A Hit at Jackson President and Mrs. Lincoln appeared at the midwest’s largest Civil War Muster in Jackson, MI the weekend of August 24-25. Very large crowds attended the event each day. Many took the opportunity to converse with the Lincolns and to pose for likenesses with them. Mr. Lincoln also had the honor and privilege of speaking at the dedication of a new grave marker for Medal of Honor recipiant Frederick Lyon of Jackson. The Lincolns also danced the night away at the ball, which was attended by a very large crowd.
Lincoln Speaks at Marker Dedication On August 10 Mr. Lincoln traveled to Alleghan County, MI to participate in a dedication of a grave marker for Civil War veteran, Alfred White, who fought with the 102nd U.S. Colored Troops. He signed up to fight only five days before his wife gave birth to their first son. Fortunately, he survived the war and was able to see his son and watch him grow.
Priebes Win Awards At the annual convention of the Association of Lincoln Presenters (ALP) held this year at Fort Wayne, Indiana, April 19-21, Fred and Bonnie Priebe won two awards for their success as Lincoln Presenters. Bonnie won the award for Best Mary Todd Lincoln of 2001. Fred and Bonnie won the award for Best Lincoln Couple of 2001. The ALP has a membership of 136 Lincoln Presenters and 35 Marys from all over the United States and Canada.
