Welcome
to the History and Genealogy pages of Michael D. Allen and Barbara A.
Bailey. This collection of information,
anecdotes, and photographs represents our on-going efforts to research our
ancestors at least back to the time of their immigration to the United
States. The most intriguing result of
our search is the discovery of how much the story of our ancestors is the story
of the western world itself. Each era
had a character and soul. Our
forefathers from the 18th century fled tyranny and despair in the
hope to see a country born. Those from
the 19th century fled the famines and the economic collapse that
battered the old world. Finally, those
from the 20th century fled the destruction of the great first war
that finally smashed the lines separating the ancient cultures of Europe.
It’s important to know where you came from, to see your
ancestor’s face in a crumbling photograph, because in a small way, you yourself
were staring into the lens of the camera, and into posterity. That trait, whether the color of her eyes or
the sparkle of her character, still walks in you. Genealogy carries both immortality and timelessness, the future
as well as the past. We have included
narratives here in an effort to capture some of the wonderful essence of life
that is lost in a mere list of birth and death dates.
Of course, the story is always growing, and we hope you will
bring any treasurers that you may have.
