Footnotes

  1. U.S. Census; 1840 Lewis County, Kentucky.
This census records him as "J. Ravinscraft", but in the Lewis Co. KY tax lists he is recorded as "Isaac." I believe he is the man identifed as James Ravenscraft, son of Capt. Thomas, in Margaret DeLeurere's book.
  2. Estimated.
He first appears on the Lewis County, KY tax list in 1817.
  3. Assumed.
He is not listed after 1845 on the taxs list nor in the 1850 census with his wife and youngest son. His wife is listed on the 1851 tax list.
  4. U.S. Census; 1830 Fleming County, Kentucky, p.39 (Ancestry.com image 5).
  5. U.S. Census; 1840 Lewis County, Kentucky.
  6. U.S. Census; 1850 Lewis County, Kentucky.
  7. Assumed.
She is listed in the 1850 census.
  8. Assumed.
This is a compilation of dates from the 1850-1880 census.
  9. U.S. Census; 1880 Lewis County, Kentucky.
  10. U.S. Census; 1850 Lewis County, Kentucky.
    Agrees with the 1870 census.
  11. U.S. Census; 1860 Lewis County, Kentucky.
  12. Lewis County, Kentucky Historical Society.
From a typed family history in archives (author unknown).
  13. Assumed.
She is listed in the 1880 census living in the Tollesboro area.
  14. U.S. Census; 1860 Mason County, Kentucky.
  15. U.S. Census; 1850 Mason County, Kentucky.
  16. Assumed.
He was recorded in the 1860 census, but his wife was recorded as a widow in the 1870 census.
  17. U.S. Census; 1850 Lewis County, Kentucky.
Although her son Jacob's census entries indicates she was born in Kentucky.
  18. U.S. Census; 1840 Lewis County, Kentucky.
  19. U.S. Census; 1830 Fleming County, Kentucky.
This same son appears to be recorded in the 1840 Lewis County, KY census, and included in the school age children in the 1841 tax list.
  20. U.S. Census; 1840 Lewis County, Kentucky.
    Could this be John?
  21. U.S. Census; 1900 Montgomery County, Ohio.
This census records his name as "Henry J. Ravencraft."
  22. Ibid.
  23. U.S. Census; 1850 Lewis County, Kentucky.
If this age is correct, then he was either incorrectly recorded in the 1840 census, or he was not living in his parents' home... or else he is not the son of Isaac and Cordelia.
  24. U.S. Census; 1870 Fleming County, Kentucky.
This age agrees with the 1880 census also.
  25. Margaret DeLeurere, "The Ravenscrofts In America".
  26. Assumed.
    This could be Sarah.
  27. Lewis County, Kentucky tax lists.
The list for 1841 also recorded the children age 7-17 in each household. For Isaac's entry, four children are recorded. I am assuming these were his own children, but they could have been nieces or nephews or non-relatives.
  28. Assumed.
    This could be Isaac James.
  29. U.S. Census; 1840 Lewis County, Kentucky.
    Could this be James?
  30. Fayette County, Kentucky marriage records.
This is apparently the date of the marriage bond. Jonathan Tolle was a surety on the marriage bond of Isaac Ravencraft & Cordelia Hurn in 1816 Fayette County, Kentucky. Jonathan was Cordelia's brother-in-law.
