Footnotes

  1. Estimated.
  2. Walter Homsey, Jr. <cedarabit@aol.com>.
Walter tells me that the word "tfeyh" means apple, so it's possible that was her given name. Her grandson William knew her as Apple.
  3. Sandra Farah-Givan <serendipity@scican.net>.
Sandra says her father lived with Apple until her death and since he returned to the U. S. on 13 May 1909, I am assuming she had died by then.
  4. Ellis Island Immigration Records.
  5. Assumed.
There is a passenger record dated 13 July 1904 for Youssef, but Catherine's immigration record on 19 Aug 1908 indicates she's a widow.
  6. U.S. Census; 1900 Allen County, Indiana.
His age is given as 39 and his marital status as married 15 years. His year of immigration is given as 1899.
  7. Ellis Island Immigration Records.
His age was given as 33 on 2 June 1899.
  8. U.S. Census; 1930 Marion County, Indiana.
  9. Obituary.
The obituary of his brother Kaleel lists him as a survivor, and indicates he lives in Indianapolis, IN.
  10. U.S. Census; 1900 Allen County, Indiana.
His age is given as 32 and his marital status as married 9 years. His year of immigration is given as 1899.
  11. Sandra Farah-Givan <serendipity@scican.net>.
Sandra says he died as a soldier in Syria. On 13 May 1909 an Ellis Island passenger list records him as the uncle and closest relation in Syria for several passengers, so he was still living then.
  12. U.S. Census; 1900 Allen County, Indiana.
  13. Obituary, Terre Haute Tribune; 10 Dec 1938, p.2.
gives his age at time of death as 70.
  14. Cemetery marker.
  15. U.S. Census; 1920 Alexander County, Illinois.
  16. Obituary, Terre Haute Tribune; 10 Dec 1938, p.2.
  17. Ellis Island Immigration Records.
Assad Farah, indexed as Farah Assad, arrived on board the S. S. Hudson on 13 Mar 1906. He was recorded as 28 years old, single, and a farmer. He was en route to his "brother Kalil Farah" on Columbia St. in Fort Wayne, IN.
  18. Ibid.
  19. Ibid.
In this record, where his first name is written the page is damaged, but he is indexed as Farah Hussini (names reversed.) To me it looks like his name begins with a "K" but it does end in "ini." He arrived on 29 Nov 1926 on board the Italia. He's recorded as 36 years old and married. He was en route to his brother "K. Farah" in Fort Wayne, IN.
