 My immigrant ancestor is... or so I believe... Peter Cassity, Sr. who was probably born between 1715-1725 in County Fermanagh, Ireland. He MIGHT have married Ann Melissa ARMSTRONG. Peter and family lived in Virginia, first(?) at the South Branch (of the Potomac) and by 1771 had moved to Tygart's Valley in what became Randolph Co. VA (now WV). Peter had at least 10 children. Most, if not all, of these children moved on to Kentucky c.1787-1790. I now believe that Peter's wife died in Virginia before 1791 but Peter, Sr. moved to Kentucky with his children. I descend directly from Peter although I am no longer sure through which of his sons. I am certain that I descend from Jonathan (b.1787 VA) who married Mary Frances ARMSTRONG; William Franklin (b.1817 KY) who married Hannah SPARKS; David Allen (b.1868 KY) who married Margaret Jane ALDRIDGE; William Owen (b.1891 KY) who married Hannah Pauline HARRISON; and then from my father. Most of the descendants of Peter and Ann spell the surname CASSITY but when my branch moved into Lewis Co. KY the spelling was changed to CASSIDY. |

Thanks to the work of Steven D. Norris I have been able to take my Norris line back several more generations. I now believe my immigrant ancestor was Edward NORRIS II, a minister who lived in Salem, MA during the infamous witch trials. Edward was descended from the Norris' of Gloucestershire, ENG... a succession of clergymen. My direct line down is John (b.1617 ENG) who married ?; Robert (b.abt 1650 MA) who married Hannah SAYRE; John (b.1698 NY) who married TOPPING?; Stephen (b.1725 NY) who married Rebecca HOWARD?; Shadrach (b.1756 NY) who married Sarah McCLAIN; Stephen (b.1782 NJ) who married Mary CLAY; Luther (b.1824 OH) who married Elizabeth BANGHART; Stephen (b.1846 OH) who married Elizabeth HARBAUGH; and finally from Adaline (b.1872) who married Guy DICK. |

The immigrant in this line was Nils, who may have been Nils Andresson, who lived in Laijkan, Gunnarskog, Varmland, Sweden. He either came to Wilmington, DE in 1648 or he is the Nils Andresson who immigrated in 1654. I am descended from his son Peter Nilsson LAICON (b.abt 1640 Sweden); Anders LAICON (b.abt 1670 PA) who married Anneka JONSON?; Peter Lykan (b.1704 PA) who married Sarah JONSON; Marcus Lycan (b.1742 PA) who married Margaret HOWEN; William LYCANS (b.1766 PA) who married Margaret RITTER; William Phillip LYKINS (b.1795) who married Hannah STOUT; and finally from Mary Ann LYKINS (b.1824 KY) who married John Ardie SPARKS. I have shown several ways the name was spelled in the early records. Most descendants nowadays spell the surname LYKINS or LIKINS. |

This is one of my frustrating lines! The first Aldridge I think I can link to is James ALDRIDGE, Sr. probably born c.1760 in VA. I believe his father was another James who married Rachel BELCHER or this is a first, early marriage for James Sr. who did marry Rachel TREADWAY in Montgomery Co. VA in 1787. James and Rachel had a son James Jr. who married Margaret MUNCY??? and I believe these are the parents of my ancestor Francis M. ALDRIDGE, Sr. (b.1809 VA) who married Nancy MUNCY. Frank and Nancy had a son Owen Riley (b.1839 KY) who married Elizabeth Ann GARRETT and they had a daughter Margaret Jane (b.1870 OH) who married David Allen CASSIDY. |

There is a weak link in my Harrison line, but I am giving it here as I believe it to be from all evidence we have so far. Cuthbert HARRISON, Esq. was born 1606 in Yorkshire, England. His wife's name is given as Susanna in the baptism record of their son Burr (b.1637/8 England) who married Frances Mary BURDETTE. Burr and Frances had a son, Thomas HARRISON, Capt. (b.1665 VA) who first married Anne _____. Their son Cuthbert (b.1703-1718 VA) married Frances BARNES and some genealogies show they had a son John (b.1744 VA). It is this John that I believe was my ancestor. This may be the same John who married Betty HEADLEY in Westmoreland Co. VA. But I am positive of my descedancy from Thomas (b.abt.1774 VA) who married Margaret FURR, whether or not he is descended from this John. From Thomas my descendancy is William H. (b.1808 KY) who married Jane KELLY; George Headley (b.1834 KY) who married Mary Frances CONWAY; William Gaither (b.1864 KY) who married Bertha Blanche HOUSH; and finally from Hannah Pauline (b.1900 KY) who married William Owen CASSIDY. |

Then descends from Johannes Nicholas SCHIELE (b.1642 Germany); Johannes Nicholas (b.1687 Germany) who married Maria Elisabetha HAUCH; Johann Jacob (b.1712 Germany) who married Maria Elisabeth _____; Johann Jacob (b.1746 PA) who married Susanna SCHREIBER; John Ludwig SHEELY (b.1773 PA) who married Mary M. _____; George (b.1800 MD) who married Eve Christine _____; and finally from Mary Margaret (b.1837) who married Daniel J. DICK. I've reflected some of the ways the surname has been spelled. |

My line begins with Peter BINGGELI who married Madgalena SPRING; then I descend from Christien BINGGELI (b.1669 Switzerland) who married Elsbeth BURRI; Peter BINKELE (b.1704 Switzerland) who married Ana/Maria Margaretha GEIGER; and finally from Elisabeth BINKELE (b.1749 PA) who married John George HARBAUGH. As you can see the spelling of the surname changed in different generations and today most of these descendants spell the name BINKLEY. |

My ARMSTRONG line begins with a Robert who married Mary RUSSELL. They had a son James who was born c.1759 and married Mary THOMPSON in Botetourt Co. VA in 1787.
