I was watching the Critic's Choice Awards last night, and Dennis Miller was hosting. He was pretty much doing his regular thing, making fun of people, bringing up obscure names no one had ever heard of... actually, there were a couple liberal friendly jokes in there, so it was almost "old" Dennis Miller.
...not the point.

Anyway, after a couple of pretty crappy jokes, Miller starts blaming the audience, saying stuff like "You guys are like the town elders in Footloose", and (after a joke about Ron Howard's hair) "You can laugh. He knows he's bald." But, it wasn't the crowd killing the jokes. It was him.
He just wasn't being that funny.

So, this gets me to thinking, whose fault is it when someone doesn't get the reaction they want? I recently read a Frank Black quote that said something like "My music isn't popular because people have shitty taste in music." Which is a mildly bold thing to say. Not really, I guess.
BUT, that doesn't change the point...

...And that point is, I want to know what it is that makes something fail. My first reaction to Miller's comments was: It's not the audience's fault if you suck. But is that correct? I'm thinking of some of my favorite comedians, and how they have all taken to performing in indie-rock clubs, because the comedy clubs lacked the atmosphere and crowd they were looking for.

And I guess its a little of both. You have to know your audience and choose your audience. But once you pick your audience, I don't think an artist/performer has the right to bitch if they don't like your material.

I'm not sure exactly what that means as far as the website, I haven't quite gotten that far. Maybe it means I haven't found my audience, maybe it means I'm not funny, or good at music. I'm not sure. But I guess, if nothing else, it means I updated the site with some content.
Namely, the thing your reading right now.

So, I guess, consider it official, Alpharocker Go Bragh.

I may have changed my mind about this whole thing. I need a few days to think it over. I'm having a little difficulty figuring out what is going in and outside of my head.

I have been extemely busy lately, as well as very unproductive. The combination has made me a little, I don't know... confused, I guess. Once I figure out what I am doing I will post my decision here.
